ICAO and ACI EUROPE Seminar on Aviation Environmental Situation Begins in Tashkent

A joint seminar by the European and North Atlantic offices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and ACI EUROPE, dedicated to environmental issues in aviation, started in Tashkent on October 7. The event will run until October 9 with the support of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, as reported by Uzbekistan Airports.

Representatives from international aviation organizations, airports, aircraft manufacturers, and financial institutions gathered at the seminar. Among the participants was ACI EUROPE CEO Olivier Jankovec, who is visiting Uzbekistan for the first time. Uzbekistan Airports is a member of this international airport organization.

The main topics of discussion included reducing carbon emissions, implementing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), financing environmental protection projects, increasing energy efficiency, and adapting airport infrastructure to climate change. Participants also discussed innovative technologies and the application of 'green airport' principles.

Separate sessions were dedicated to carbon accreditation and sustainable operations. As part of the seminar, Uzbekistan Airports received certification under the international Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program, confirming the accreditation of nine of the company's airports.

Samarkand, Urgench, Namangan, Fergana, Nukus, Termez, Karshi, and Navoi airports received Level 1 accreditation, indicating that operational carbon emissions measurement and independent verification have been conducted. Tashkent International Airport reached Level 2 by implementing measures to reduce its carbon footprint, becoming the first airport in Central Asia to achieve the second level of the Airport Carbon Accreditation program.

During the seminar, representatives of Uzbekistan Airports will present the company's initiatives to support the implementation of SAF and participate in discussions regarding carbon accreditation, sustainable operations, and the development of airport infrastructure. The company will also take part in the closing discussion on the prospects for environmentally sustainable aviation and the presentation of ACI EUROPE's new strategy for airport sustainability.

Tashkent to host conference on Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor

A conference on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor (TCTC) will take place in Tashkent on September 30, 2026, as part of the second national event dedicated to the TCTC. The main goal of the event is to focus on developing transport links between Central Asia and Europe.

The event will gather representatives from government bodies, international financial institutions, development partners, and the private sector. The conference will be co-chaired by the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan and the Directorate General of the European Commission for International Partnerships. A central theme will be transforming common priorities in transport connectivity into concrete investment projects and reforms.

The conference will build upon the work initiated at the Investment Forum on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and Connectivity, held in Tashkent in November 2025, as well as at the first national seminar of the TCTC Coordination Platform in September 2024.

The role of Uzbekistan in strengthening its position along the Trans-Caspian route will be discussed. Key aspects include investments in railway and road infrastructure, creating an efficient logistics network, digitizing trade and transport documents, simplifying border crossing procedures, and increasing private sector participation.

This conference is being held within the framework of the EU-funded TCTC Coordination Platform and the Global Gateway strategy. This platform unites five Central Asian countries, the European Union, international financial institutions, and other partners to coordinate reforms and investments.

The platform's activities aim to transform the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor into a more reliable, secure, and efficient route between Asia and Europe. It is expected that the conference outcomes will be taken into account in further joint work on priority investment projects and measures aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and efficiency of the TCTC, as well as strengthening Uzbekistan's role in the regional transport system.
