Cost of Hygiene Items in Hotels: Price of Tooth Kits and Shower Products

When staying in hotels, essential items such as toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, and toothbrushes are usually found in the bathrooms. Many people consider a hotel good if it provides such amenities. However, some hotels increase the cost of accommodation by offering these services. At the same time, many are surprised by how low the actual costs for hotels for these items can be.

Let's look at the price at which tooth kits, shower gel, and shampoo are sold.

Take, for example, a small toothbrushing kit, which is often found in a hotel bathroom in the form of a sachet. It includes a small toothbrush and toothpaste. When purchased in bulk, such a standard kit can cost around 7-9 rupees. If the hotel chooses a more premium option, such as a bamboo-bristled set, its price can rise to 15-20 rupees.

These prices are based on wholesale market data and listings on India Mart. It is important to understand that these goods are usually ordered not individually, but in large quantities. The larger the order placed by the hotel, the greater the discount it can receive.

If the hotel wishes to put its name or logo on its toothbrushing kit, the price increases slightly. Nevertheless, when ordering in large volumes, some suppliers do not charge extra for printing, making the purchase of branded kits not too expensive for the hotel.

Now let's turn to shampoo and shower gel. Small packages of 15 ml are usually found in hotel bathrooms. When purchased in bulk, such a small bottle can cost approximately 5 rupees. Similarly, if branding, a name, or a logo needs to be applied to the bottle, the price may increase slightly.

However, many hotels achieve even greater savings. Instead of using small disposable bottles, they install permanent dispensers or bottles in the bathroom that are regularly refilled with shampoo or shower gel. For such hotels, shampoo and shower gel can be purchased in large 5-liter canisters. This avoids the expense of buying individual bottles for each guest.

If all these expenses are summed up, the picture becomes quite interesting. In a typical hotel, a toothbrushing kit (toothbrush and paste) might cost around 7-9 rupees per guest, and shampoo and shower gel around 10 rupees. Thus, the total cost for the hotel for these three or four small amenities can be approximately 15-20 rupees per guest. This cost may increase with the addition of bamboo brushes, premium packaging, or hotel branding.

Thus, although these small items placed in a hotel room may be part of quality service and a premium experience for the client, from the hotel's perspective, their cost is not high. These items, which cost only a few rupees, play a big role in creating a more comfortable and premium-looking room.
