Tencent Unveils Series of Vertical AI Agents, Including CraftBuddy and MusicBuddy, in Its Own Applications

Between July and September, Tencent released approximately eight vertical AI agent products. According to a review published by QQ News on October 6, these agents are integrated into Tencent's existing business areas, such as WeChat, gaming, music, and video conferencing.

The company's strategy is being implemented on two levels: general-purpose agents, like WorkBuddy, aim to become the primary entry point for users, while Tencent is developing specialized agents for almost every scenario where it already has users, content, or services.

Innovations in the Gaming Industry

In the gaming sector, CraftBuddy is featured—an AI-based game creation platform developed by Tencent's game ecosystem development team. Initially shown in May under the codename Craft, it was officially named in September. CraftBuddy allows for the generation of 2D and 3D games from text prompts and comes with over 40,000 ready-made artistic assets.

Additionally, a separate AI companion product is available in closed testing, which provides virtual characters. When screen sharing is enabled, this character can read the game screen and voice match decisions, supporting games such as Valorant, CS2, and League of Legends.

Music and Work Tools

In the music domain, MusicBuddy has appeared—an AI composition tool currently in internal testing at Tencent Music. It retains the familiar multi-track editor of traditional arrangement software but is augmented with an AI chat panel. This allows creators to modify arrangements, swap instruments, or rewrite lyrics using simple language, after which they can publish the result across multiple platforms in one step.

For work tasks, Tencent Meeting collaborated with Insta360 to create a lavalier microphone with AI recording capabilities. This 19-gram device features an E-Ink screen that serves as an electronic badge, and recordings automatically sync with the Tencent Meeting app for transcription, speaker separation, and minute generation via AI. Tencent also launched an AI-powered order matching platform for small businesses, where the AI assistant analyzes client requirements and matches freelancers, commission-free.

Other developments include LightVela from the Tencent Lighthouse Cloud team, which is a constantly active personal cloud agent that remembers user preferences and connects to messengers. In WeChat, the lineup is completed with free mini-programs for short dramas.

Convergence of Names and Ecosystem

There is a trend toward name unification. Following WorkBuddy, CodeBuddy, DataBuddy, MusicBuddy, and CraftBuddy have emerged, expanding the 'Buddy' family, which signifies an AI partner for any scenario. As part of this strategy, Tencent is transforming tools like Tencent Docs, Tencent Meeting, and Tencent Maps into skills that agents can invoke. By mid-July, the SkillHub community already contained 78,000 such skills.

Tencent's main bet is that in the age of agents, covering a large number of scenarios is more important than having any single breakthrough application.
