Solar panels are changing life in remote Amazonian communities against the backdrop of increasing drought threats due to El Niño. In the settlement of Nova Sosiedade, located deep within the protected territory of the Brazilian tropical rainforest, solar energy provides clean water and sufficient electricity to meet the daily needs of 36 families.
Previously, residents of this community relied on diesel generators, but the fuel was expensive and polluting, and access to electricity was limited and unreliable. Currently, similar systems have been installed in 29 other communities.
Furthermore, this technology allows for the electrification of schools, medical centers, and local businesses.
