How to update your address in Aadhaar and PAN documents online from home

In the modern world, Aadhaar and PAN documents are vital because without them, difficulties may arise when performing many daily tasks such as banking operations, tax matters, or obtaining government services. If a person has recently changed their place of residence or moved to another city, it is crucial to update the address on these documents. The good news is that visiting offices is no longer required to update the address in Aadhaar and PAN; this can be done online.

If you need to update the address in both documents, it is recommended to start with Aadhaar. This can be done using the myAadhaar portal or the UIDAI mobile application. The user should log into the portal, enter their Aadhaar number, and complete verification using a One-Time Password (OTP) sent to the registered phone number. After successful verification, an option to update the address will appear.

When selecting the address update option, you must carefully fill in the new address using the one specified in your official proof of address document. You will also need to upload the relevant address proof. Before submitting the form, you should thoroughly check all the information, as an error in the address can cause future problems. After submitting the application, a URN—a request number for the update—will be assigned, which allows you to track the status of the Aadhaar update.

Once the new address has been updated in Aadhaar, you can proceed to make changes to PAN. To do this, you need to visit the websites of Protean (NSDL) or UTIITSL. There, you should select the 'Change/Correction in PAN Data' option and enter your PAN number. Next, you need to fill in the other requested details. You might be offered the Aadhaar-based e-KYC option.

If you choose the Aadhaar-based e-KYC option, the verification process is completed via OTP. After completing the e-KYC procedure, the new address updated in Aadhaar can be entered into the PAN records. Thus, if you have moved, the simplest way is to first sort out the address in Aadhaar and then use this Aadhaar for e-KYC in PAN. However, there is also the option to update data in PAN by filling out the appropriate form.

Suppose you have moved, but the old address is still listed in both Aadhaar and PAN. In the future, this could create problems when you need to present any document with different addresses. Therefore, after changing your residence, it is essential to update the address in the necessary documents. You must save the URN received after submitting the request in Aadhaar to monitor the processing of the application. As soon as the new address is updated in Aadhaar, you can undergo the Aadhaar-based e-KYC procedure for PAN. This way, you can update the address in both important documents without leaving home.
