Fast & Furious franchise will be adapted into a TV series with Vin Diesel, premiere scheduled for 2028

The Fast & Furious franchise will receive its first live-action television series. The streaming service Peacock, owned by NBCUniversal, has approved the production, which is scheduled to premiere in 2028, coinciding with the release of the latest film in the main saga.

Vin Diesel, the actor who plays Dominic Toretto, will participate as one of the executive producers of the project. The news of the approval was disclosed on Thursday, the 1st, by the portal Deadline.

The eleventh and supposed final film of the franchise, titled Fast Forever, is scheduled to premiere on March 17, 2028, and is expected to bring back Brian O’Conner, a character played by Paul Walker, who passed away in 2013.

The development of the series will be handled by Universal Television. Mike Daniels (known for Ponies) and Wolfe Coleman (known for 9-1-1: Lone Star) will lead the creative decisions. This duo, who previously collaborated on the police series Shades of Blue, was responsible for writing the pilot episode and will share the direction of the production.

In addition to Diesel, other names linked to the films, such as Neal H. Moritz and Chris Morgan, will also sign on as executive producers.

Although Peacock has not detailed the plot of the series, Diesel mentioned in May that the creators were attentive to fans' interest in learning more about old characters from the franchise, which celebrated 25 years in 2026.

The intention of the production is to explore the universe of illegal racing, incorporating iconic elements from the films, such as modified cars and engines and nighttime encounters.

According to the magazine, the green light for the project came after an internal reorganization at Universal, which resulted in the unification of the management of the cinema and television areas. The franchise is considered extremely profitable for the studio, as the films have already generated over R$ 36 billion (equivalent to US$ 7 billion) in global box office revenue.

It should be noted that Fast & Furious has previously had a presence on television through the animation Fast & Furious: Agents of the Asphalt, broadcast by Netflix between 2019 and 2021. Currently, Peacock does not operate in Brazil, and there is no information yet on how the new series will be made available to the Brazilian public.

This new production is the first of a total of four series that Diesel announced in May during the annual NBCUniversal presentation for advertisers, held in New York. The other three series are in the development phase, featuring dedicated teams and experienced writers in genres such as crime, fantasy, and cartel suspense, but only this first one has received the green light from Peacock so far.
