The Japanese Immigration Service Agency recently sent two citizens of this country back to Uzbekistan who were illegally in the country. This was reported in a press release from the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan dated October 6, 2026.
According to the embassy's statement, both citizens entered Japan on student visas but remained in the country after their visas expired, after which they were detained by the authorities.
The embassy reminded citizens that student visas are issued exclusively for educational purposes and do not grant holders the right to earn income. Individuals caught in illegal stay or employment are subject to strict measures, including police arrest, detention at an immigration holding center, and subsequent deportation.
The embassy stated that the Japanese government transfers information about violators to the government of Uzbekistan, which means that measures can be taken against them even after their return to Uzbekistan. The diplomatic mission strongly urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and not trust offers regarding employment opportunities in Japan.
Furthermore, the embassy drew attention to the common misconception that applying for refugee status allows one to stay in the country for a long time or work; such goals are not provided for in applications. If refugee status is denied, the person may be placed in an immigration detention center or deported. The embassy warned that providing false information or using fraudulent methods when submitting documents can lead to serious legal consequences.
