An American researcher was able to determine the name of the dog depicted in the painting in the tomb of an ancient Egyptian official who lived approximately 3500 years ago. She used digital image processing methods for this.
The animal's name translates to 'He Who is from Duat (the other world)'. According to information presented in The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, this designation has not previously appeared among known Egyptian kennyms, which may indicate a connection to the cult of the god Anubis.
