Vivo has released its new premium foldable phone, the X Fold 6, in the Indian market. The device is priced at ₹2,19,999. The model is equipped with a 200MP ZEISS camera, a 6900mAh battery, and the next-generation Dimensity 9500 Super Edition processor.
The competitiveness of this offering compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is a point of discussion. Previously, foldable smartphone manufacturers kept prices within 1.5 lakh rupees, but the release of the Apple foldable phone for 3 lakh rupees changed the market situation, forcing other companies to set prices above 2 lakh rupees. There are suggestions that Samsung may also launch its next foldable device at a price of around 2.5 lakh rupees.
Compared to the previous model, the X Fold 5, which was priced at ₹1,59,999 in India, the new device is approximately ₹60,000 more expensive. The Vivo X Fold 6 is presented in one configuration option: 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Pre-orders begin on October 6th, and official sales start on October 13th through the Vivo online store, Amazon, Flipkart, and selected retail outlets.
The main camera of the Vivo X Fold 6 is a 200MP ZEISS sensor, which also includes OIS technology and ZEISS T Star coating. Additionally, the device features a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera capable of achieving up to 100x digital zoom. Experts note that while the 200MP specification is impressive, image quality depends not only on megapixels but also on sensor size, lens quality, OIS presence, image processing, and ZEISS color correction.
Vivo has paid significant attention to the camera capabilities in the foldable phone. The device supports 4K video recording at 60 frames per second with Dolby Vision support, utilizing the V3+ Imaging chip. This makes the phone suitable not only for users who value a foldable screen but also for those who actively shoot photos and videos.
Despite the advantages of a large screen in foldable devices, the battery has always been an issue. Vivo addressed this in the X Fold 6 by installing a 6900mAh battery, which the company claims is the largest among foldable phones sold in India. Charging support includes 80W wired and 40W wireless. This is a substantial improvement over the 6000mAh in the previous X Fold 5, indicating a priority placed on maximizing battery capacity over striving for the thinnest possible body.
Nevertheless, despite the larger battery, Vivo maintained a relatively thin profile: when open, the X Fold 6 has a thickness of about 4.4mm, and the black version starts at 228 grams. The device's display includes an 8.02-inch LTPO AMOLED inner display with a 2K+ resolution, as well as a 6.51-inch outer screen. Both displays support a refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, with a peak brightness reaching 5000 nits.
The X Fold 6 runs on OriginOS 7, based on Android 17. The company has focused on transforming the large screen into a full-fledged workstation. Key features include Origin Workbench and Multi-Split Screen, allowing multiple applications to run simultaneously. According to the manufacturer, one primary and four secondary applications can operate on the screen in parallel. The AI Cross-App Drag function is also implemented for convenient transfer of text or data between apps, alongside tools such as Desktop Mode, AI Recorder, AI Captions, AI File Manager, and AI Reader.
