RBSE introduces a two-exam system for 10th-grade graduates in Rajasthan starting from the 2026-27 academic year

The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has made a significant decision aimed at reducing stress among 10th-grade students in Rajasthan. Students will no longer have to wait a whole year after receiving unsatisfactory results. The board has decided to change the examination system by scheduling tests twice a year. This new scheme will come into effect from the 2026-27 academic year.

Under the new system, the first main assessment will take place in February-March, and the second in May-June. An important aspect is that higher scores obtained by students during the second session will be included in the final result. Furthermore, RBSE has abolished the supplementary examination system for the 10th grade, replacing it with the second exam held in May-June.

This second exam will provide relief to students who received low grades in the first session or need correction in any subject according to established rules. Students who successfully pass the main assessment can take the second exam to improve their results in a maximum of three subjects. Subjects eligible for grade improvement include Hindi, English, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Vocational Education, and Sanskrit/Third Language. However, students cannot change the subjects they apply to improve; they must take the exact subject they applied for.

The main advantage of this new structure is that the student's best result from the two exams will be counted. For example, if a student scores 60 marks in a subject in the first session and 70 marks in the second, the final record will reflect 70 marks. Conversely, if the score in the second session is lower, the higher score from the first session will be retained.

According to the board's rules, all registered regular and private students are required to attend the first main assessment, which will be held in February-March and will be based on 100% of the curriculum. The second exam in May-June will give students the opportunity to correct their grades and complete their studies in the same academic year.

The new system requires students who score less than 33 percent in two subjects in the first main assessment to take the second exam in May-June. Similarly, students who were absent from one subject and scored less than 33 percent in another must also participate in the second session for necessary correction. Nevertheless, not every student will be eligible to participate in the second exam. If a student fails three or more subjects or is absent from the exam according to established rules, they will not be allowed to participate in the second exam in May-June. Such students will have to retake all subjects next year. Thanks to this new system by RBSE, the greatest benefit will go to students who could not achieve the expected result in the first session due to stress, insufficient preparation, or other reasons, as they will no longer have to wait a whole year to rectify the situation.
