According to the report by real estate consulting firm CBRE, India's data center sector has attracted investment commitments totaling $173 billion since the beginning of 2021, as investors remain optimistic about future prospects amid growing technology adoption.
In the first half of 2026, the Indian data center market increased its capacity by approximately 130 MW, with over 200 MW expected to be commissioned in the second half of the year. CBRE reported this in a report titled 'Beyond Growth: India's Rise Among Leading APAC Data Center Markets,' published on Tuesday.
The report notes that from January to June 2026, the DC sector attracted about $38 billion in investment commitments, bringing the total accumulated volume since 2021 to approximately $173 billion.
Investments in hyperscale and colocation accounted for nearly 62% of the total DC commitments from 2021 to the first half of 2026. CBRE emphasized that this sustained growth demonstrates high investor confidence, driven by increased cloud technology usage, AI-related demand, and ongoing digitalization initiatives.
The consultant noted that the scale of these commitments indicates further capacity expansion, strengthening India's position as a leading data center market in the region. Anshuman Magasin, Chairman and CEO of CBRE for India, Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Africa, stated that the Indian data center sector continues to scale at a pace that can only be matched by a few markets in the region.
He added that reaching a installed capacity of 2 GW by the end of the current year will be a significant achievement, but the discipline of this growth is more notable: India's cumulative investment commitments exceeding $170 billion, Mumbai's continued leadership, and the growing share of AI-related capital indicate market maturity even during its expansion phase. Furthermore, CBRE reported that over 15% of total commitments were linked to artificial intelligence, reflecting the increasing influence of AI-related demand on the sector's investment trajectory.
