Airlink Launches New Direct Flight from Cape Town to Mauritius

For travelers from the Western Cape dreaming of visiting Mauritius, it has become easier to reach the island, reports Cape Town Etc. The airline Airlink has started its first route to the island nation, and today the first non-stop flight from Cape Town took place, opening a direct connection between the two destinations.

The new service will operate twice a week using the new Airlink Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. This means that passengers from Cape Town and surrounding areas now have an alternative for traveling to Mauritius, bypassing the need to connect in Johannesburg.

Airlink CEO De Villiers Engelbrecht noted that the airline's new flagship aircraft contributed to the realization of this route. He emphasized that the E195-E2 allows Airlink to conveniently connect Cape Town with Mauritius, and this route is an important addition to the airline's network, strengthening the link between these two significant tourism and business markets.

The schedule and departure times were designed to meet the needs of both leisure and business travelers. Instead of relying on early or late flights, the bi-weekly schedule allows tourists more time to spend on vacation, and business travelers can more easily integrate Mauritius into their plans.

Mauritius is known for its tropical coast, but its appeal is much broader. The island combines luxurious resorts, golf courses, turquoise lagoons, and multicultural heritage, making it a major destination for international guests. In 2025, over 1.4 million people visited Mauritius, with South Africa being one of the largest sources of tourists.

Relations between the two countries are also important from a commercial perspective. More than 140 South African companies operate in Mauritius in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, consumer goods, and ICT. Financial services and business process outsourcing on the island further strengthen commercial ties. Investment and trade incentives related to taxation and offshore business have also helped Mauritius establish itself as an important hub for investment and trade.

The Airlink E195-E2 aircraft accommodates 124 passengers, including 12 seats in Business Class configuration. Economy class passengers sit in a two-seat-together arrangement, excluding central seats; each passenger receives either a window or an aisle seat. The aircraft also offers ample legroom, large eye-level windows, overhead storage, and power outlets. Passengers receive complimentary drinks and meals on board, and can utilize Airlink's sports equipment allowance. Customers receive an additional sports equipment allowance of 15 kg above standard baggage. Discounted Economy tickets include 20 kg of free baggage, while full-fare Economy passengers receive 30 kg.

The new Airlink service operates every Tuesday and Friday. It provides travelers from the Western Cape with a new direct route to Mauritius, while simultaneously strengthening air connectivity between the two established tourism and business markets. Airlink customers can book and manage their trips through the airline's website, mobile app, or through a travel agent.
