iONLINE expands global network by launching Sydney exit point

For many global deployments, connectivity often depends on centralized network routes, leading to increased latency, limited visibility, and slowing down even simple network changes. This causes unpredictable routing, slower incident response, and longer lead times for routine policy or network modifications.

To reduce these complexities, iONLINE Connected Networks brings core capabilities closer to the locations where devices operate at the edge, expanding its global network core. The latest node added is Sydney, Australia. An exit point is a location where device traffic leaves the mobile network and enters the public internet or a private network. A local exit point means this exit occurs within the region, which helps reduce latency.

Previously, most solutions for global roaming of corporate clients directed traffic back to the UK or Europe as an exit point. iONLINE's new Australian exit point provides high-speed localized connectivity in a region experiencing rapid growth in enterprise data and Internet of Things (IoT) needs.

High-performance connectivity powered by a software-defined core

iONLINE Director David Parkerson stated that 'corporate connectivity should not force customers to choose between global reach and local performance. By distributing our core capabilities in key regions like Australia, we can improve performance and give customers greater control to adapt quickly as their operations change.'

Since the core is built on Stacuity's cloud-oriented, software-defined mobile core technology, iONLINE is now able to better manage traffic flows and apply policies across different regions in real time. This will deliver measurable results for customers, including faster regional deployment, more stable operation of critical applications, reduced downtime risk, and increased operational responsiveness.

These capabilities bring advantages across various industries such as healthcare, logistics, utilities, smart infrastructure, and transportation.

Real-time control, enhanced performance, and less friction

The iONLINE network already covers several key regions, with further deployment planned. In addition to Sydney in Australia, the network also operates in the USA, UK, and South Africa. More exit points will be added.

Parkerson emphasized that 'these cores are designed to eliminate friction. When customers need to scale, optimize, or react, they can do so quickly and confidently. They gain operational agility that moves at the speed of opportunity.'

iONLINE Connected Networks is a connectivity solutions provider offering enterprise technology solutions globally. In addition to connectivity solutions, the company recently launched Sense Hub—a cloud platform for connected sensors and asset tracking that centralizes device management, real-time telemetry, secure geolocation services, and analytics in multi-network deployments. With offices in the USA, UK, South Africa, and Australia, iONLINE aims to provide customer service and ensure its clients stay connected in an ever-changing world.

Startup Midcentury raises $15 million in seed funding to create data for training physical AI

New New York startup, Midcentury, has emerged from stealth mode, announcing the raising of a $15 million seed round. The company aims to solve the problem of data scarcity in robotics. The company has presented two main products: an extensive egocentric dataset containing over two million hours of human behavior, and a cloud simulation platform called Matrix.

The raised funding round places Midcentury among the top 1% of all seed deals in the big data category. For comparison, the median size of a seed round in the second quarter of 2026 was about $4.5 million. However, the startup did not disclose its valuation or information about investors.

The company plans to use first-person human action data to train robots, similar to how web scraping trained large language models. Its proprietary dataset covers over 50 environments and 20,000 tasks. Each hour of recording is annotated, including 3D hand pose tracking, depth maps, and point trajectories. This scale significantly exceeds existing public research options, such as Ego4D v2, which contains approximately 3,600 hours.

In addition to recordings of human actions, Midcentury possesses about 50,000 hours of gaming data with engine-level signals, as well as approximately 69,000 hours of conversational voice data in 25 languages. Since this dataset is strictly proprietary, researchers will not receive free access to it.

Midcentury also released Matrix—a cloud simulation platform that allows teams to create digital twins of real-world scenarios. Instead of relying on hard-coded rules, the platform derives physics directly from real data. Engineering teams can run thousands of parallel tests on GPU clusters, turning failures into immediate examples for training.

The company actively leans on Richard Sutton's 'brute force' concept, according to which raw computational power and massive amounts of data ultimately surpass manual feature engineering. CEO Chetan Kulhari previously worked at the AI coding startup Magic. According to SEC filings from January 2026, the company sold about $8.9 million to five backers, indicating a staged closing of the round.

There are many startups in the market competing for control over the data layer for embodied AI. Competitors such as Rerun and Vision Lab have also attracted venture funding in the last year. If scaling laws successfully transition from language models to physical robots, market positions will likely be determined by the entities controlling the training data.

Cape Town Launches New Beach Alert Platform

The City of Cape Town has introduced the new platform, Cape Town Beach Alerts, designed to simplify the decision-making process for visiting beaches during the summer period. This platform serves as a centralized source of information for local residents, providing data on water quality, weather forecasts, and beach conditions.

According to the City's statement, this system was created so that residents and visitors have easy access to coastal water quality data and can easily understand it. Users no longer need to consult multiple different sources because all necessary information is gathered in one place.

Users can search for individual beaches or tidal pools to view the latest water quality analysis results from the past week or get a longer-term picture based on data from the last 365 days. Results are displayed using color coding: green indicates compliance with national recreational recommendations, amber points to one failed result, and red signifies two consecutive failures.

The functionality of Cape Town Beach Alerts goes beyond just assessing coastal water cleanliness. The platform also provides information on daily weather and a three-day forecast, which includes wind speed and direction—a factor critically affecting beach recreation. Furthermore, the app contains information about lifeguards and their schedules.

Moreover, Beach Alerts includes a section with frequently asked questions, as well as educational materials on natural coastal phenomena and marine environment aspects.

CapeTownETC reported that Beach Alerts is integrated with the City of Cape Town app, allowing users to set up notifications for beach events in the city, such as sewage spills, seal rabies outbreaks, or washed-up whales. The City noted that this is only the first phase of the project, with further development planned.

The City stated that 'Cape Town Beach Alerts makes complex coastal water quality information accessible to the public. We aim for the Cape Town Beach Alerts website to become the primary resource for Cape Town residents and visitors regarding all beach-related matters.'

Adler Eddie Andrews, Deputy Mayor and member of the Mayoral Committee for Spatial Planning and Environment, urges people to use this platform this summer when planning beach visits. He advised: 'Visit https://beachalerts.capetown.gov.za. Save the link, share it, and use it to get reliable and up-to-date beach information right in your pocket!'
