Pharmaceutical company Lupin has launched the Formoflo-G MDI inhaler in India. This product is positioned as the world's first triple fixed-dose inhaler (MDI) for the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), following approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI).
According to information provided by the company on Tuesday, this inhaler combines three proven therapeutic agents: glycopyrronium bromide, formoterol fumarate, and fluticasone propionate. It is intended for the long-term management and treatment of moderate to severe COPD, and is available as a single-dose preparation used twice daily.
The product launch is part of Lupin's efforts to strengthen its position in the Indian respiratory drug market. The company reported that, according to IQVIA MAT data for March 2026, it holds the second position in the respiratory therapy segment in India.
Lupin estimates that over 55 million people in India suffer from COPD—a chronic respiratory disease that remains a major cause of disability and mortality. The new formulation aims to expand treatment options for these patients.
Nilesh Gupta, Managing Director of Lupin, emphasized that Formoflo-G MDI reflects the company's commitment to meeting unmet patient needs through differentiated, high-quality treatments. He added that the company's goal is to combine innovation with accessibility to improve outcomes for patients with respiratory diseases.
Rajiv Sibal, President of the India Regional Prescription Forms division at Lupin, noted that this drug combines three established therapies into one inhaler. He also stated that it strengthens Lupin's respiratory portfolio and provides healthcare professionals with an important treatment option for suitable COPD patients, demonstrating the company's commitment to providing innovative and quality treatments.
Lupin has a wide presence in India, the USA, and other developed and emerging markets, distributing products in over 100 markets. The company's portfolio includes generics, complex generics, specialty medicines, and biosimilars. The company operates 15 manufacturing facilities and six research centers, employing over 26,000 staff.
