If you are looking for a quick and satisfying option for breakfast, you can prepare chilla from green lentils and granulated peas. This chilla is not only very tasty but also healthy. We will tell you a simple recipe for its preparation.
If you are tired of usual dishes like pohi, upma, or paratha for breakfast and want to try something delicious and healthy, then chilla from green lentils and granulated peas will be an excellent choice. The chilla, made from these ingredients, turns out crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. To enhance the flavor, components such as onion, tomatoes, bell pepper, garlic, and green pepper are added. Preparing this dish does not take much time. It can be eaten not only for breakfast but also as a light dinner or evening snack. It can be served with green chutney, tomato chutney, or yogurt.
For preparation, you will need: 1 cup of green lentils, 1/2 cup of granulated peas, 1 medium tomato, finely chopped, 1 onion, finely chopped, 1/2 bell pepper, finely chopped, 4-5 cloves of garlic, finely chopped, 1-2 green peppers, finely chopped, salt to taste, a little fresh cilantro, 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric, 1/2 teaspoon of cumin powder, 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper powder, 1/2 teaspoon of coriander powder, vegetable oil for frying the chilla.
First, thoroughly wash the green lentils and soak them for some time. When the lentils become soft, drain all the water. Then, both mixtures (lentils and granulated peas) are blended in a blender, adding a little water to obtain a puree.
The resulting paste puree is transferred to a large bowl and the granulated peas are added. Next, gradually adding a small amount of water, the mixture is prepared so that it can be easily spread on the pan. It is important to ensure that the batter is neither too thick nor too thin.
Finely chopped onion, tomatoes, bell pepper, garlic, and green pepper are added to this mixture. After that, turmeric, cumin powder, coriander powder, red pepper powder, and salt are mixed in, stirring thoroughly. Finally, fresh cilantro is added. If you prefer a crispier chilla, make the batter slightly thinner.
Heat a pan and grease it with a little oil. As soon as the pan heats up, pour one ladleful of the batter and evenly spread it in a circle and a thin layer using a spoon. Do not make the chilla too thick, otherwise, it will take a long time to cook.
When the edges of the chilla start to turn light golden, drizzle a little oil around the entire perimeter and carefully flip it over. Cook on the other side until the chilla is golden and crispy. Place the finished chilla on a plate and serve hot with green mint-cilantro chutney, tomato chutney, or yogurt.
