Special Vande Bharat train proposed between Delhi and Patna for Diwali and Chhath festivals

Every year, there is a serious problem with obtaining tickets for trains running from Delhi to Bihar around the Diwali and Chhath festivals. This year, the demand for seats on regular trains was so high that they were completely sold out immediately after sales opened for 60 days. Currently, passengers are forced to rely on the Tatkal express quota, provided the railway application functions correctly. The reason is that either tickets on all trains are marked as 'Regret', or the waiting lists are so long that there is no chance of ticket confirmation.

In this regard, a new option may appear for travelers from the railway: the launch of a special Vande Bharat train between Delhi and Patna is being prepared, which could ease travel during the holidays. Although the railway has not yet given final approval for the operation of this train, the Northern Railway has submitted a corresponding proposal to the Railway Board. If approved, passengers will be able to use the high-speed route from Delhi to Patna during Diwali and Chhath.

According to the proposal, the special Vande Bharat services between Delhi and Patna are planned to run from October 21 to November 28. Two sets of trains have been proposed. The first set (02252/02251) will operate from October 21 to November 25. Its departures from New Delhi are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The return journey from Patna will operate from October 22 to November 26 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. A total of 16 runs have been proposed for this pair.

The second set (02253/02254) is proposed to run from October 24 to November 28. Departures from Patna will occur on Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays. The return journey from New Delhi is scheduled from October 22 to November 26 on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Thursdays.

This train will cover a distance of about 994 kilometers in approximately 13 hours. According to the planned schedule, the train will depart from New Delhi at 8:35 AM. Along the way, it will stop at Aligarh, Kanpur Central, Prayagraj, Pan. Dindiyapal Upadhyay Junction, Baksar, and Ara. After this, the train will arrive in Patna around 9:30 PM.

It is proposed that the train from Patna to New Delhi will depart at 10:00 AM. It will arrive at Prayagraj around 3:35 PM, and then the arrival in New Delhi is scheduled for around 11:30 PM. Thus, passengers traveling from Delhi to Patna can leave in the morning and reach Patna by evening. Similarly, on the return journey, there will also be an opportunity to leave Patna in the morning and arrive in Delhi at night.

If the Railway Board gives its consent, the fare in AC Chair Car with food may range from 2,575 to 2,600 rupees. For the Executive Chair Car class with food, a price of 4,650 to 4,680 rupees is proposed. Therefore, before purchasing a ticket, passengers should assess how convenient this option is considering their budget and travel time. The meal option must be selected when booking the ticket. If meals are not taken, the ticket price may be slightly lower.

Currently, tickets are unavailable because the train is in the proposal stage and awaiting approval from the Railway Board. Ticket sales will only begin after official permission is granted. According to the PRO of the Northern Railway, booking will open on the IRCTC website immediately after approval. Therefore, those planning a trip from Delhi to Patna during Diwali or Chhath will benefit from monitoring announcements and the start of sales for this train.

Reasons for high demand during festivals

During Diwali and Chhath, a large number of people from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and surrounding areas travel to Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The number of passengers returning home increases particularly sharply during Chhath. Because of this, it becomes difficult to obtain a confirmed ticket on regular trains. The railway organizes special trains on various routes to manage passenger flow. The special Vande Bharat Delhi-Patna train may become part of this preparation.

Vande Bharat Sleeper high-speed train to start service on Bangalore-Mumbai route soon

Currently, the journey from Bangalore to Mumbai by train takes about 22–24 hours. However, it is expected that the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train between these two cities will reduce travel time by 6–8 hours. This train is anticipated to begin operations this month.

According to the proposed schedule, the trip from Bangalore to Mumbai will take 16 hours and 5 minutes. The return journey from Mumbai to Bangalore is estimated to last about 15 hours and 45 minutes. This route will be the first Vande Bharat Sleeper high-speed train in South India.

The proposed railway route is approximately 1137 kilometers long, fully electrified, and equipped with double tracks. Most of this section allows for speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour, making it an attractive option for high-speed service. The train is designed to meet the needs of passengers undertaking long overnight journeys.

Although the final launch date and schedule are awaiting official announcement from the railways, the proposed timetable includes the train departing from SMVT Bengaluru terminal at 19:50 and arriving at CSMT Mumbai terminal the next day at 11:55. For the return trip, the train is planned to depart from CSMT Mumbai at 20:10, arriving in Bangalore at 11:55 the following day.

According to sources, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train route between Bangalore and Mumbai may have stops at certain stations. Potential train numbers 27651 and 27652 are mentioned, but final confirmation of stops and numbers is still pending. These details will be determined after an official statement from the railways.

Under the initial plan, the train was supposed to start from the SMVT station in Bangalore. However, there is a requirement to launch the train from the main railway station of the city, KSR Bengaluru, as it is more convenient for passengers. The initial announcement for the train launch was made in September 2025, and now the decision from the railways regarding the starting station must be awaited.

Two sets of 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper trains have been prepared for this service. Their construction was carried out by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) under the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) program. According to sources, one set is located at the Bangalore depot, and the second is in Vardapur, near Bangarapet. The Railway Commission may soon issue an official notification regarding the transfer of these sets to the South Western Railway.

The total composition of the proposed Vande Bharat Sleeper train will consist of 16 coaches, including 11 3AC class coaches, 4 2AC class coaches, and 1 1AC class coach. The approximate ticket price in 3AC class is around 3000 Indian rupees. It is expected that breakfast and meals will be included in this price, as Vande Bharat trains provide meal selection on long journeys. The railway anticipates that the lower price and shorter travel time compared to air travel will make this service popular among passengers.

Daily train service approved between Kanpur and Delhi with overnight journey

Good news for passengers traveling between Kanpur and Delhi: the Ministry of Railways has approved the launch of a new daily train service between Kanpur Central and Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi. The introduction of this new express service will provide an additional option for passengers on this busy railway route.

A key feature of the new service is that the train will operate during nighttime hours in both directions, allowing passengers to travel overnight and arrive in Delhi or Kanpur in the morning.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the new service will run under the name Train 14153/14154 Kanpur Central-Anand Vihar-Kanpur Central Mel. This train will run daily in both directions. The Ministry notes that the new service will strengthen the rail connectivity between Kanpur Central and Anand Vihar, as well as benefit passengers from major cities traveling along this route.

The train will depart from Kanpur Central at 20:40. After the overnight journey, it will arrive at Anand Vihar Terminal at 04:50 AM. Thus, passengers traveling from Kanpur to Delhi can utilize the night journey and arrive in the capital region early in the morning. In the return direction, Train 14154 Anand Vihar-Kanpur Central Mel will depart from Anand Vihar Terminal at 23:25 and arrive at Kanpur Central the next day at 07:25 AM.

The Ministry of Railways reports that both routes cover a distance of approximately 428 kilometers. The planned travel time from Kanpur to Anand Vihar will be about 8 hours and 10 minutes, while the return journey from Anand Vihar to Kanpur will take about 8 hours.

The new train will not only provide direct connectivity between Kanpur and Delhi but will also be useful for passengers from several large towns and villages along the route. The Ministry of Railways has designated eight stops for this train. Major stops include Fafund, Itawa, Tundla, Hathras, Aligarh, Hurja, Dadri, and Ghaziabad. Passengers from these localities will also gain access to an additional daily railway service for travel between the Kanpur and Delhi regions.

A significant number of people regularly or daily travel between Kanpur and Delhi, including those commuting to the capital region for work, business, studies, medical treatment, and other urgent matters. The overnight schedule of the new train may be particularly convenient for such passengers who do not wish to spend daytime hours traveling. For example, by boarding the train at 20:40 from Kanpur, a passenger can arrive at Anand Vihar around 04:50 AM. Similarly, passengers returning from Delhi can board the train at 23:25 and arrive in Kanpur at 07:25 AM. The Ministry of Railways emphasized that this new daily service will provide additional railway options for passengers between Kanpur and the capital region, considering the overnight departure in both directions.

The impact of the new train will not be limited to Kanpur and Delhi. Residents of important cities such as Itawa, Aligarh, Dadri, and Ghaziabad will also benefit. An additional option will be available for passengers traveling from Itawa and its surroundings to Delhi. Furthermore, stops at key stations like Aligarh and Hurja will provide convenience to residents of these areas. With a stop in Ghaziabad, transport accessibility to Delhi will become even more convenient for residents of the capital region. The Ministry of Railways believes that this service will help facilitate movement between Kanpur, Itawa, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, and Delhi.

In addition to the Kanpur-Anand Vihar train, the Ministry of Railways has approved an important project for Vadodara in Gujarat district. The Ministry has sanctioned the construction of a four-lane elevated road (ROB) in Alkapuri. The estimated cost of this project is 166.5 crore rupees. Construction will be carried out based on joint funding with the Government of Gujarat. The total cost will be split equally between Indian Railways and the state government, with each party's share amounting to approximately 83.2769 crore rupees.

The existing underpass (RUB) near Vadodara station, located in Alkapuri, is an important part of the road connection between the Alkapuri and Kalaghodha areas. However, due to its height of about three meters, movement of large vehicles is restricted. Moreover, during the monsoon season, flooding occurs here, leading to traffic disruptions and inconvenience for road users. In light of these issues, the Ministry of Railways plans to construct a four-lane grade-separated flyover, which will help increase the capacity of the existing road crossing system and improve traffic management.
