Ammodo Architecture announces the first edition of Architecture Days in Amsterdam for November 2026

Ammodo Architecture will debut with the Ammodo Architecture Days in Amsterdam, scheduled for November 9 and 10, 2026. This event, organized by Ammodo Architecture, which is part of the Ammodo Foundation, aims to bring together various professionals, including specialists in architecture, landscape design, urban planning, artists, communities, collectives, and multidisciplinary design teams. Winners of the Ammodo Architecture Award for 2024 and 2025 will also be present.

The event will take place at Westergas, a former industrial complex converted into a cultural and public space. The two-day agenda will consist of a symposium, an exhibition, the launch of a publication, and an awards ceremony, promoting an environment of exchange among practices operating in different geographical, cultural, and disciplinary contexts.

The program is based on 49 projects recognized in the first two editions of the Ammodo Architecture Award. These projects are organized around six central themes: Claim, Heritage, Urban Acupuncture, Rebalancing, Mastery of Material, and Reuse. The themes cover works that utilize existing buildings and materials, incorporate local knowledge, promote community participation, and reflect continuous urban changes, emphasizing both creative processes and final achievements.

Notable examples cited include the Machan_Korail Community Platform, created by the Paraa office in Bangladesh, which transformed an old landfill into a cultural and community center; VinziRast am Land, developed by the gaupenraub+/− office in Austria, which adapted an old luxury hotel into a residential and working community; and the Sustainable Alleys project by RAMA studio in Ecuador, focused on exploring the potential of Quito's alleys to make them greener and more socially integrated public spaces.

The event will begin with a symposium on November 10, featuring the award winners, members of the Ammodo Architecture Advisory Committee, and professional guests. This session will include a series of debates, workshops, and lectures. Confirmed speakers include Andrés Jaque, architect, dean, and professor at Columbia University GSAPP; Anupama Kundoo, architect and professor at TU Berlin; Floris Alkemade, architect and former chief architect for the Netherlands government; Loreta Castro Reguera, architect and professor at UNAM in Mexico City; and Aric Chen, director of the Zaha Hadid Foundation in London.

Parallel to the debates, an exhibition conceived by Thonik, Studio LMNOP, and Fiction Factory will showcase the projects of the winners of the 2024 and 2025 Ammodo Architecture Awards. Unlike a simple gallery of finished works, this show will analyze the ideas, processes, and contexts that influenced these projects, providing a more detailed view of the diverse methodologies represented in the award. After its display in Amsterdam, the exhibition will continue on an international circuit, with future locations yet to be announced.

Additionally, the event will mark the launch of a new publication by Hatje Cantz, compiling essays from invited contributors and in-depth analyses of the projects from both award editions. The closing will be held with an honors ceremony for the winners of the 2024 and 2025 Ammodo Architecture Awards, whose work was recognized in three distinct categories: Social Architecture, Social Engagement, and Local Scale. Starting in 2026, the Ammodo Architecture Award and Ammodo Architecture Days will alternate biennially, expanding the awards program with a continuous platform to foster dialogue between its projects and professionals.

In other recent news, the Copenhagen Architecture Biennale announced its second edition, which will take place between September 9 and October 15, 2027, under the theme 'Elements,' investigating the connection between architecture and planetary forces and environmental control. Concurrently, the Sharjah Architecture Triennial launched three documentaries exploring architectural archives in Baghdad, Damascus, and Tunis, while the Danish Architecture Center celebrates the 90th anniversary of architect and urban planner Jan Gehl with an exhibition and special program about his influence on people-focused urban development.
