Sharjah Municipality warns against illegal dumping of pets after cases of abandonment at the market

The Sharjah Municipality issued a warning to residents regarding the practice of abandoning pets, as numerous instances of animals being left behind were discovered near the bird and pet market.

In an announcement published on Monday, the administration cautioned against such actions, labeling them a violation of current regulations and contrary to the principles of compassion and responsible animal care.

For owners wishing to surrender animals, the municipality advised contacting its call center at 993 to inquire about the possibility of acceptance and the availability of space at the Sharjah Cat and Dog Shelter.

Along with this notification, the municipality released a video recording showing a boy leaving an animal in a cage near one of the shops at the bird and pet market.

The municipality clarified that requests to surrender animals are considered based on the shelter's capacity, and applicants are contacted as soon as space becomes available to determine if the animal can be accepted.

It emphasized its commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership, which includes ensuring proper medical care, adequate nutrition, and a safe environment, as well as compliance with relevant laws and requirements.
