Honda presents 2027 Civic Type R in the US with a lower price than the Brazilian model

Honda has launched the 2027 version of the Civic Type R in the United States, introducing subtle design modifications, suspension enhancements, and new standard features, such as heated front seats, which are unprecedented in this sports car.

This model is available at American dealerships this month for approximately R$ 248 thousand (equivalent to US$ 49,990). This price already includes shipping costs and represents a slight increase of about R$ 6,400 (US$ 1,300) compared to the previous year.

This update marks the thirtieth anniversary of the Type R designation, which was introduced in Japan in 1997, and also celebrates ten years of the car in North America. However, in Europe, this hot hatch has been discontinued due to stricter emission regulations adopted in the region.

Externally, the front grille has been expanded, and the lower diffuser has received a deeper profile. According to Honda, these changes aim to reduce turbulence, optimize airflow for engine cooling, and increase aerodynamic pressure, known as downforce, which provides greater stability at high speeds. Additionally, the color palette now includes Meteorite Gray Metallic, offered at no extra cost.

Mechanically, Honda has fine-tuned the dampers in +R mode to mitigate body roll and soften shocks on uneven surfaces. The system responsible for synchronizing engine rotations during gear reductions has become more agile, and the brake pedal has been equipped with an additional spring to provide a more immediate response.

The powertrain remains unchanged: the Type R continues to use the 2.0 turbo engine, generating 319 hp and 42.8 kgfm, with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. Honda emphasizes that this is the only vehicle in its category that exclusively offers a manual transmission.

Inside the cabin, the upper dashboard and front doors have been covered in Ultrasuede, a material that, according to the manufacturer, also helps reduce glare on the windshield. The gear lever and air conditioning buttons have received a darkened finish, and the center console has been updated with two USB-C ports located above the wireless charger.

The standard equipment list has been expanded to include an electrochromic interior rearview mirror, post-collision braking system, revised steering assists, and a multimedia center equipped with the integrated Google system, which incorporates the Gemini assistant.

The exit from the European market was announced by Honda in mid-2025. The sports car does not comply with the Euro 6e-bis standard, which came into effect in January 2026, resulting in the cessation of sales in the European Union and the United Kingdom after a special farewell edition, called the Ultimate Edition, limited to only 40 units. The Ford Focus ST shared the same regional fate.

In Brazil, the 2026 Civic Type R is being sold starting from R$ 430,500, according to information from the brand's dealerships. In the national territory, the engine delivers 297 hp because it has been adjusted for Brazilian gasoline, which contains ethanol. Honda has not yet disclosed whether the 2027 line will be available in the country.
