Residents of Cape Town are strongly urged to use water responsibly as efforts continue to protect the city's long-term water reserves.
City council member Badrooien reported that the City is investing in a number of measures aimed at increasing water supply resilience. These measures include the use of groundwater, water reuse, and desalination.
Furthermore, as part of the long-term water security strategy, the City is working to eliminate water-consuming invasive alien plants.
Badrooien emphasized that reducing losses, expanding water sources, and decreasing demand are a shared responsibility. He added that these steps, combined with coordinated solutions across the entire water supply system, will help preserve the city's water reserves while considering residents' expenses.
According to consumption statistics, about 70% of the water used in large volumes is consumed in households. Residents are advised to utilize the City's water-saving tips to reduce domestic consumption. Information on water conservation is available on the City of Cape Town website.
Residents are also reminded of the need to immediately report municipal water pipe bursts through official City channels. When reporting a burst, one should specify the exact location or address and insist on receiving a reference number.
