Uzbekistan takes fifth place at Asian Games in Ahichi-Nagoya-2026, winning 70 medals

The Uzbekistan national team won 70 medals, thus securing fifth place in the overall standings at the XX Summer Asian Games held in Ahichi-Nagoya-2026. After the competition concluded, the athletes returned to Tashkent, where they were greeted by Prime Minister Abdullah Aripov, heads of sports structures, city administration representatives, and fans.

The Uzbek team's medal tally includes 21 gold, 25 silver, and 24 bronze awards. The total number of participants from the country was 396 athletes representing 42 different sports.

Following the event, Uzbekistan demonstrated the best result among Central Asian countries and states belonging to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Achieving fifth place marked the third consecutive victory for the national team at the Asian Games.

Successes in martial arts and new faces

A special success was achieved by representatives of martial arts. Fighters won four gold and two bronze medals, and the men's boxing team became the first in the team standings. Judokas and Taekwondo athletes could only be surpassed in the medal count by athletes from Japan.

New names also appeared at the Games, including Shoxsanam Sherzodov, Utkirbek Jurayev, Sita Kadamboyeva, Turabek Khabibullaev, Barnoxon Saifullayeva, Sharifa Davronova, Aitjan Khalmakhanov, Jassurbek Jaisunov, Shahzoda Nurmatov, and Sobir Safaraliyev.

The delegation arrived in the capital on a special charter flight. Prime Minister Abdullah Aripov congratulated the athletes on their results and conveyed greetings from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

One of the winners in the gold category was Turabek Khabibullaev, who won the boxing tournament in the under 90 kilograms weight class, adding another gold medal to the national team's collection.

Currently, Uzbek athletes need to focus on preparation for upcoming major international competitions, including the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
