Elderly man dies after suffering heart attack at polling station in Bahia

An elderly man, identified as Gilson Pereira da Silva, passed away after experiencing cardiopulmonary arrest while at the voting location. According to data provided by the Military Police, the man showed signs of ischemia in both his face and extremities, characterized by decreased or cessation of blood and oxygen supply to a specific body area, in addition to lacking respiratory movements.

Individuals with health knowledge provided first aid to the elderly man. Subsequently, Gilson was transported to the Santa Cruz Medical Center to receive specialized medical assistance.

Gilson's family informed TV Oeste, the affiliate of Rede Bahia in the region, that he had a history of heart disease and used a cardiac pacemaker.

In an official statement, the Municipal Chamber of Councilors of Cotegipe expressed its sorrow over Gilson's death and conveyed solidarity to all his family and friends.

The incident was handled by a team from the 84th Independent Company of the Military Police (CIPM), which formalized the case record as a death resulting from a heart attack in a voting area.

Born in Manaus on March 10, 1954, Sérgio also held a degree in Law from the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam). Initially, he built his career in the public sector, working at the Attorney General's Office of the State of Amazonas (PGE-AM) and later at the State Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, where he led the Cultural Diffusion sector.

After obtaining postgraduate studies in cultural project management, his main contributions were in the arts. His artistic production frequently explored themes such as urban life, social disparities, the preservation of memory, and the changes occurring in the Amazon.

In the theatrical field, Sérgio gained recognition with award-winning plays at the Amazon Theater Festival, including 'The Cursed Heritage of Mercedita de La Cruz' and 'Carmen de La Zone'. Furthermore, his work extended to cinema and visual arts, encompassing the direction of films and documentaries, as well as the creation of photographs, paintings, installations, and other visual manifestations.

Sérgio's work remains accessible in Manaus. His most recent exhibition, titled 'Papers & True Graphics', is being presented at the Palácio da Justiça Cultural Center, located in the city center. This show displays paintings, photographic installations, and visual narratives created by the artist. The venue also has a section dedicated to cinema, where works directed by Sérgio are screened. Visitors can view the exhibition from Monday to Saturday, except Tuesdays, from 9 am to 3 pm.

Sérgio's death generated significant repercussion among members of the Amazonian cultural community. Friends, writers, and other artists used social media to express their sorrow and celebrate the multi-artist's journey.
