‘Medicine for a Day’ Program Offers High School Students Experience in Mandic’s Medical Routine

The ‘Medicine for a Day’ program from São Leopoldo Mandic College provides high school students with an immersion into the medical routine. This initiative opens the doors of the campus located in Campinas, offering practical and targeted experience to aid in career choice.

During participation, students have access to academic infrastructure, visit laboratories, and take part in a practical Anatomy class. The objective is to allow the student to transcend purely theoretical knowledge and observe, under supervision, how medical science content applies in the daily life of the undergraduate course.

Bianca, who serves as coordinator and professor at Poliedro de Campinas, emphasizes the importance of this visit, as it brings young people closer to discussions that already occur in the classroom. She states that it is a chance for students to analyze human anatomy and experience what Medicine means, whether they wish to pursue the medical field or medical sciences in general.

In the practical session, participants can manipulate anatomical models under supervision, deepening their understanding of the human body. Furthermore, the experience introduces crucial topics for medical training from the beginning, such as empathy, responsibility, and respect in patient care.

Bianca also praises the institution's welcoming atmosphere and the relationship established with partner schools. She adds that the college has remarkable infrastructure and receives students with great satisfaction, making it a moment of intense learning for everyone.

Knowing before choosing

This experience helps the student formulate more specific questions about the undergraduate course, such as the nature of practical classes, the environments used in the course, the teaching method of Anatomy, and how interaction with patients and the health team develops during training.

For those still in the decision-making phase about the next steps after high school, this contact serves as an initial exercise in professional guidance. Instead of knowing Medicine only through accounts or online content, the participant experiences part of the university environment and closely observes the elements that make up the six years of study.

How to participate in Medicine for a Day
