Game Brasil Research 2026 reveals Brazilian apprehension about the impact of artificial intelligence on games

Artificial intelligence is already part of the gaming industry, but its advancement faces resistance from players. The Game Brasil Survey (PGB) 2026 indicates that a considerable portion of the Brazilian public expresses concern about the effects of generative AI on the game production sector.

This 13th edition of the survey collected data from 7,115 individuals, aged between 16 and 55, and found that players' concerns go beyond the technology itself. They show anxiety primarily regarding the consequences of AI for professionals, artists, and the overall quality of games.

According to the PGB 2026, almost half of the respondents, specifically 45.7%, express fear about potential job losses and the deterioration of the creative process resulting from the use of AI in the industry. Furthermore, copyright infringement is a relevant concern for 39.6% of participants, due to the potential misuse of creators' and artists' work.

Another point of attention is the quality of titles; 38.4% fear that games will see a reduction in quality, leading to an increase in productions perceived as lacking substance.

The results indicate that the debate about AI among Brazilian players is intrinsically linked to the methodology of integrating this technology into game development. Mauro Berimbau, a consultant at Go Gamers and professor at ESPM, clarifies that the real situation requires a more detailed analysis, weighing whether the use of AI was ethical, whether professionals were replaced by the technology, and whether this resulted in a drop in game quality.

Despite the apprehensions, Brazilians do not automatically reject AI-assisted games. The survey revealed that 39.3% would say they would buy a game even knowing that a large part of the art, voice acting, and text was generated by AI. Additionally, another 40.9% mentioned that they could consume this type of content.

These data suggest that the acceptance of AI may be determined less by the mere existence of the technology and more by how it is applied. Transparency, safeguarding human work, copyrights, and maintaining quality thus emerge as crucial factors for players' interaction with games created using generative tools.
