Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre is changing its identity, becoming a family outdoor recreation center on the southern coast of KZN. This landmark site on the southern coast of KZN is being repurposed from Crocworld Conservation Centre to Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre.
The new direction places a greater emphasis on family outdoor adventures while maintaining conservation work and educational programs at its core. Crocworld has been part of the Scottburgh community since 1985, when the famous crocodile Henry Nile arrived at the center.
After more than 40 years, the center is expanding its offerings to include walking trails, cycling tours, nature conservation lectures, reptile experiences, dining services, and aerial attractions.
Susan Badat, manager of Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre, expressed enthusiasm for the new changes, some of which are already implemented and others are forthcoming. She emphasized that despite the unwavering commitment to wildlife conservation and education, the center continues to evolve alongside visitors and the local Scottburgh community.
Cycling and Walking Trails
The growing network of Crocworld Adventure Trails is becoming an increasingly significant part of this offering. The network starts at Crocworld and connects to the wider Renishoe Coast Perimeter and surrounding areas. Over 100 kilometers of trails have been developed and maintained through collaboration with local partners and sports clubs.
Currently, Crocworld offers trails of various lengths: 5 km, 10 km, 20 km, and 40 km. These tracks provide diverse terrain, smooth sections, technical elements, as well as views of the coast and countryside. The Badger’s Cycling and Sports Centre (CSC), which contributed to the trail development, brought its cycling expertise right to the entrance of Crocworld.
New Cycling Hub
Visitors wishing to explore the trails by bicycle can use the new bike shop on site. Badger’s Cycling and Sports Centre (CSC), involved in the trail design, has placed its cycling expertise at the Crocworld entrance. The shop offers bicycle sales, professional servicing, accessories, clothing, and expert consultations.
The cycling and trail offering also opens up opportunities for group rides, time trials, sporting events, and community activities.
Nature Conservation with an 'Educational' Focus
Although adventure is becoming a more prominent part of the Crocworld experience, nature conservation remains a central element of the offering. The center is resuming its educational lectures on nature conservation, inviting local experts to the park to exchange knowledge through accessible and engaging sessions. The goal of these lectures is to allow guests to learn directly from specialists working in the field and better understand the wildlife and natural landscapes of South Africa.
Snake Lectures and Crocodile Encounters
Crocworld has also reinstated its snake lectures and demonstrations. These sessions allow visitors to learn more about South African reptiles, their role in the ecosystem, as well as myths and misconceptions associated with them. Another attraction is handling young crocodiles, which gives guests a closer look at reptiles in a controlled environment.
Tree Parkour
For those seeking more adventure, Jikaleza Outdoor Adventures is located near the center. This attraction includes a high ropes course and zip-lining activities, allowing visitors to see the coastal area from a different perspective. This experience is suitable for a wide age range and adds an active element to Crocworld's wildlife and conservation offerings.
Dining at Fish Eagle Cafe
Visitors can also enjoy the ambiance at Fish Eagle Cafe, where buffet options are being introduced on weekends and special events are held. Crocworld has also resumed booking children's birthday parties at the cafe. These celebrations include food and treats, with the option of a day visit to the park.
