Pointo, a startup involved in the distribution and servicing of lithium-ion batteries, is focusing on the growing markets of electric vehicles (e-auto), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and secondary use products to increase revenue. The company is actively engaging with investors to raise 70–100 crore rupees for the next phase of expansion.
This startup, based in the city, previously raised 6.2 crore rupees in a seed round led by Equirus InnovateX Fund. The capital raised is planned to be used for establishing an automated large-scale battery refurbishment center and expanding the nationwide ground distribution network.
According to Pointo's founder and CEO, Ricky Biswas, the company's revenue grew to 80 crore rupees in the fiscal year 2026 compared to approximately 3 crore rupees in the fiscal year 2024. He expects revenue to reach 150 crore rupees in the current fiscal year.
Pointo was founded in 2023 by Biswas, a chemical engineer from IIT Guwahati, along with three co-founders. The company's goal is to create a closed supply chain covering battery deployment, buyback, refurbishment, and application as secondary resources.
The company aims to change the approach to electrification in India for electric vehicles (EV) by eliminating high initial costs and providing instant access to financing through partnerships with Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs).
Biswas told PTI that the company has signed agreements with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of lithium-ion batteries for co-branding and marketing, and also has numerous partnerships with NBFCs to provide finance-ready lithium-ion batteries to e-rickshaw drivers and fleets.
Currently, the startup serves 25,000 customers through more than 22 physical nodes located in six states: West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Punjab. The company is now working to strengthen its micro-distribution network to cover second and third-tier cities.
Biswas emphasized that they are building a strong 'hub and spoke' distribution network, creating a closed supply chain. He noted that they are currently operating in the e-rickshaw segment, which is itself a large market valued at approximately 50 lakh vehicles, and plan to increase their presence in this segment.
Furthermore, he sees significant opportunities in the L5 E-auto, BESS, and secondary use product segments. Since they already have a distribution network, they intend to expand it into existing markets to effectively utilize the growing demand.
Highlighting the market potential in the electric vehicle and four-wheeler segments, Biswas noted that around 8,000 – 10,000 electric vehicles are expected to require battery replacement starting next year, which will create substantial demand for new lithium-ion batteries.
Batteries extracted during replacement will also serve as a key source of raw materials for secondary applications and new minerals for batteries. Pointo plans to convert spent batteries into lower-load products, such as home inverters for resale, which will help increase revenue and play a vital role in the circular supply chain.
Biswas added that the company has an R&D and refurbishment center spanning 20,000 sq ft, and with an established customer base, the next step is to build an automated, large-scale refurbishment center. Discussions are currently underway with investors to raise approximately 70–100 crore rupees for the construction of this center and the expansion of the ground network.
