A five-and-a-half-meter boa constrictor frightened local residents in the Municipal Park of Porteiraú, located in the south of the state. Video footage taken by passersby shows how the snake moved along the street. The recording shows the animal descending from the sidewalk curb and crossing the road before returning to the forest.
A biologist explained that such encounters can occur during the rainy season. According to the specialist, based on its size and shape, this boa is estimated to be between 10 and 15 years old.
The professional also noted that during the rainy season, snakes (which are popularly called snakes) become more active as they search for food, which increases the likelihood of them being spotted. The specialist added that they are easier to notice in areas with abundant vegetation and water.
He reminded that despite the bravery of the observers, this is a wild animal that may react if it feels threatened. Therefore, it is not recommended to approach it; if necessary, the Fire Department should be called.
The video captures the boa returning to the thicket, and witnesses reported that it continued its journey.
