The athletes of Santos Futebol Clube wore shirts with a special emblem in memory of Naty Potira, a fan who passed away due to metastatic cancer. The classic match against São Paulo Futebol Clube took place at the Morumbi Stadium in the city of São Paulo. The black and white team achieved victory and dedicated the triumph to the digital influencer and flight attendant, who became a symbol for the fanbase.
The club shared a dedicated message on its social media, stating that 'Eternal Naty Potira was present in the #SacredCloak that she loved and defended so much. This victory was for you, Naty! For you and for all those people who have left us in this difficult fight against cancer. We know how happy you are from up there with today's result.'
This emblem was presented by the club during the week, as a result of an online fan mobilization. The match took place this Friday (2) in the capital of São Paulo and ended with Santos winning 2-1. With this, Santos reached 41 points in the Brazilian Championship, and the victory in the classic served to crown the tribute paid to the fan.
The Two Tribute Shirts
The patch featuring the influencer's face was incorporated into two uniforms worn by the Santos players this Friday (2) during the classic against São Paulo. One of these uniforms was released the day before, in reference to the Pink October campaign, and was used during warm-ups. In this first uniform, the patch was positioned in the center of the shirt, between the club and Umbro brand logos.
The shirt used during the match was the traditional black and white striped model, where the personalized patch was placed on the sleeve.
The Fight Against Cancer
Naty was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2023 during routine exams. She shared this diagnosis on social media at the time and, approximately a year later, announced she had been cured. However, according to g1, she had to restart treatment in 2024 after the detection of a metastasis.
Over the years, the influencer underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions, managing to eradicate tumors in her neck and cervix. Despite the treatment, the cancer progressed to organs located in the abdominal region. Naty was hospitalized at the Leforte Hospital at the end of August in the capital of São Paulo. On September 20, she was sedated to ensure her comfort and passed away on Saturday (26).
