In the men's hockey final of the 2026 Asian Games, held on October 3rd at the Green Sports Stadium in Gifu Prefecture, Kakamegahara, the Indian team defeated Malaysia with a score of 5:1. During the match, India's captain Harmanpreet Singh scored two goals, while Yugraj Singh, Hardik Singh, and Shilanad Lakda each scored one goal.
Thanks to this victory, the Indian men's hockey team also qualified for the Los Angeles Olympics (LA 2028). Thus, the Indian men's hockey team won the gold medal at the Asian Games for the fifth time. Previously, they had won gold in the Games of 1996, 1998, 2014, and 2022. However, this is the first time the Indian men's hockey team has successfully defended its Asian Games championship title.
Previously, the Indian team had secured silver medals three times (in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1990, 1994, 2002) and bronze three times (in 1986, 2010, and 2018).
The first quarter was very tense. The Indian team received two penalty corners, one of which was converted into a goal. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored India's first goal in the 11th minute of the first quarter. Nevertheless, the Malaysian team equalized after three minutes thanks to a brilliant field goal by Chellio Silvius.
Malaysia also received two penalty corners in the first quarter.
The second quarter belonged entirely to the Indian team. Yugraj Singh scored a goal from a penalty corner in the 8th minute of the second quarter. Like India, Malaysia also received two penalty corners in this quarter but failed to score.
At halftime, the score was 2:1 in favor of India. In the third quarter, the Indian squad continued to dominate, scoring one goal from a penalty shot taken by Hardik Singh. India received three penalty corners in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, India added two more goals, which did not disappoint the Indian fans. In the fourth quarter, India received only seven penalty corners.
