Deviated co-pilot with training in Morocco was not hired; involvement in terrorist attack confirmed

RAM released a statement informing that the co-pilot of the diverted flight completed a three-month theoretical training at the company in 2025, which anticipated a possible hiring, but whose application was subsequently rejected.

This clarification from RAM came after various media outlets reported that the said co-pilot had previously worked for the Moroccan airline.

Additionally, the Public Prosecution Office of the United Arab Emirates confirmed this Saturday that the co-pilot of Flydubai flight FZ1073 initiated a terrorist attack by assaulting the pilot using an 'emergency axe.'

During the flight, the co-pilot began executing his plan by attacking the aircraft commander inside the cabin and attempting to take control of the plane's controls.

The Attorney General of the United Arab Emirates also declared that investigations are ongoing to clarify all details of the incident, its motivations, and any related connections, in addition to finalizing technical checks and the analysis of material and digital evidence. It was added that the final results will be disclosed once the necessary procedures are completed.

Unidentified sources, cited by the Saudi channel Al Arabiya and CNN, reported that the co-pilot of flight FZ1073, which almost caused a crash, was prevented from flying in his home country, Oman, due to the discovery of extremist ideas by Omani authorities.

According to Al Arabiya, the co-pilot left Oman after being prohibited from flying and may have been influenced by 'extremist ideas' from 'radical groups' in Syria, where he spent time, given that his mother is a native of that country.
