Ajay Devgn's film 'Drishyam' surpasses Vir Paahariya's 'Prem Kitana' at the box office

Vir Paahariya's romantic comedy 'Prem Kitana' was released in theaters on Friday, October 2nd, Ganesh Chaturthi, and faced competition from Ajay Devgn's film 'Drishyam: Conclusion'. 'Drishyam: Conclusion' demonstrated an impressive start, which apparently influenced the box office collections of 'Prem Kitana'.

According to Sacnilk data, 'Prem Kitana' collected 50 million rupees (net) on its first day across 1886 screenings in India. The gross collection in India amounted to 60 million rupees, although global gross collection data was unavailable at the time of the report.

On the second day, Saturday, as of the publication time, the film was shown in only 713 shows in India, with its revenue reaching just 16 million rupees. Notably, superstar Salman Khan visited 'Prem Kitana' in support during the rivalry with 'Drishyam 3', but his support did not reflect in the box office collections.

According to available information, the film's budget is estimated at approximately 30 million rupees, though the creators have not officially confirmed this figure. If the stated budget is correct, the first-day revenue can be considered an acceptable start from a production cost perspective.

Ajay Devgn's film 'Drishyam: Conclusion' collected a net income of 62 million rupees in India on its first day, and its worldwide box office reached 92 million rupees. This success marks the biggest film in Ajay Devgn's career to date.

The film also sparked discussions regarding its connection to the 2024 Malayalam romantic comedy 'Premalu'. Earlier reports circulated that 'Prem Kitana' was an official adaptation, leading to criticism from the creators after the original film left the OTT platform. However, Vir later clarified that 'Prem Kitana' is not a remake of 'Premalu'.

The story centers around Vishal (Vir Paahariya), who falls in love with Suhani Sharma (Adia Saied). While Vishal dreams of settling in America, Suhani gets a corporate job under the guidance of the arrogant and selfish Ranjit (Aparshakti Khurana), who also shows interest in her. Subsequently, a romantic rivalry begins between the two men as they both try to win Suhani's heart.

Review of 'Drishyam: Conclusion' by Ajay Devgn: A Comparison with Mohanlal's Original

The film 'Drishyam: Conclusion,' starring Ajay Devgn, was released in theaters on October 2, nearly 11 years after the premiere of the first part of 'Drishyam' in 2015. The original picture was a sensation due to its combination of family emotions and unexpected plot twists. This work was an official remake of the Malayalam film 'Drishyam,' whose screenplay was written by Jeethu Joseph.

The 'Drishyam' series has evolved into a franchise that currently consists of three parts in different languages. However, in the version for the Hindi-speaking audience, the third episode, 'Drishyam: Conclusion,' was written by the project creator Abhishek Pathak himself, rather than being based on the plot of the Malayalam counterpart. Furthermore, Vijay Salgaonkar's story is concluded in this version.

Despite 'Drishyam' being a remake franchise, the Hindi version differs from the Malayalam original. Although the Malayalam 'Drishyam 3' could initially be perceived as the third installment, after watching, it became clear that opting for the new version was the right choice. Critics and audiences agree that 'Drishyam: Conclusion' significantly surpasses the Malayalam 'Drishyam 3' in terms of viewer engagement. Meanwhile, the Malayalam 'Drishyam 3' is considered the weakest film within this franchise.

In the plot of the Malayalam 'Drishyam 3,' Georgekutty dreams of a new life with his family, wishing for his daughter Anju to marry and establish her own home. However, due to negative public opinion arising from the Varun murder case in the city, no one wants to marry Anju. Meanwhile, Varun's parents, Gita and Prabhakar, are planning revenge for their son's death. They devise a carefully planned scheme for Anju to reveal the truth about Varun's murder and her father's secret. Gita and Prabhakar achieve partial success in this mission. But then Georgekutty intervenes to protect his daughter and voluntarily surrenders to the police, thus concluding the story of 'Drishyam 3,' which resembles a family drama more than a suspense thriller.

Ajay Devgn's version uses only about ten percent of the plot from the Malayalam counterpart. 'Drishyam: Conclusion' focuses not only on Vijay Salgaonkar's family but also includes a police investigation and a gripping court trial. Tension builds around Sam's body. Unlike the Hindi version, where the focus is not on Anju's marital life, here attention is paid to Vijay Salgaonkar's cunning and resourcefulness in confronting his adversaries. Thus, the Hindi 'Drishyam 3' retains the core of the franchise, whereas the Malayalam 'Drishyam 3' delves too deeply into family drama, causing disappointment. It can be argued that Ajay Devgn made the right decision not to create a layer-by-layer remake of Mohanlal's film. This deserves praise for director and writer Abhishek Pathak for creating such a strong film.

Review of the film 'Mirzapur': a brutal spectacle featuring Pankaj Tripathi

The film 'Mirzapur', based on a television series of the same name, presents a sequence of violence, greed, and shifting loyalties. The main characters strive to dominate the underground drug business, and the picture contains an element of sexual subtext, making it a film strictly for adults.

Brutal Spectacle

Director Gurmit Singh, with a significant budget, successfully transfers the dark atmosphere of the series to the big screen. Pankaj Tripathi easily takes center stage as the calculating boss of the Kalin Bhaiyya gang, using his restrained threatening remarks.

Ali Fazal, who plays Guddu Pandit, and Ravi Kishan demonstrate mastery in their violent attempts to seize power while maintaining romantic attachment to their loved ones. The overall runtime of the film, exceeding three hours, could have been significantly shorter if the rather absurd comedic subplot introduced towards the end had been excluded.

Overall, 'Mirzapur' is a loud, aggressive, and uncompromising event for the big screen. Although it does not fully adhere to the strict narrative control of its streaming service source material, it possesses enough spectacle and star power to satisfy fans craving cinematic chaos.

After Tamannaah Bhatia, Sharvari Waghm also celebrated Chhath Maiya festival, showing long sindoor on her forehead

Large-scale scenes related to festivals are often seen in the Bollywood film industry, but the great folk festival 'Chhath' rarely appeared in mainstream Indian films. Nevertheless, a change in trend is now being observed in Indian cinema.

Within one month, the vibrant cultural and majestic depiction of the Chhath festival was presented in two large and expensive Indian films, which won the hearts of the audience.

Following the film 'The One' starring Siddharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, the new movie 'Ye Prem Mol Liya' by renowned director Suraj Bajaiya also presented the worship of Chhath Maiya with great respect and beauty.

Bollywood actress Tamannaah Bhatia is currently being actively discussed due to her upcoming film 'The One'. A significant part of this film is based on events taking place in Bihar, and in the plot, Chhath is not just used as a background but is explored very beautifully.

Tamannaah Bhatia's traditional look in a red saree, with a long sindoor on her forehead and a basket for offerings in her hands, is very popular on the internet. This is one of the few instances in Bollywood where this important festival of Bihar has received such a significant place in a major project.

Immediately after Tamannaah Bhatia's film attracted attention, footage from Suraj Bajaiya's new film 'Ye Prem Mol Liya' appeared. Suraj Bajaiya, known for creating films about family and cultural values, also paid great attention to the significance of this great festival in his narrative.

'Ye Prem Mol Liya' showcases crowds of pilgrims on the riverbanks, couples adorned in red attire, and the traditional way of making offerings, captured with great cinematic beauty in photos taken from the song, which is suitable for the big screen.

This is the second instance within one month where two major film studios have presented the traditions of celebrating Chhath in such a grand manner in their big movies.

While the film 'The One' featuring Siddharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia is fully ready for release in theaters on September 25, 2026, the film 'Ye Prem Mol Liya' under the direction of Suraj Bajaiya will be released on big screens on November 27, 2026. These traditional and cultural posters and photographs associated with both films have caused huge excitement among fans even before the premiere.
