Uzbekistan extends application deadlines for student rent compensation

Uzbekistan has decided to extend the deadlines for submitting applications for partial rent compensation for students who were unable to secure places in university dormitories.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation reported that the deadline for making payments for September will also be extended. This statement was made in response to social media reports about possible restrictions when submitting such applications.

According to the current procedure, students of state higher educational institutions who are not provided with dormitory accommodation are entitled to reimbursement of part of their housing rental costs. This compensation applies to housing occupied under a lease agreement.

The Ministry specified that the decision to extend the deadlines was made after receiving appeals from the students themselves. New dates for document submission and payment for September will be officially announced shortly.

The Ministry emphasized that additional information regarding the procedure and new deadlines will be provided to students following the official announcement.

Compensation for kindergarten expenses for working women will begin in Uzbekistan from 2027

Starting January 1, 2027, the state budget in Uzbekistan will introduce compensation for the costs of keeping children in family kindergartens for working women. This support applies to children aged two to three years old.

Announcement of Support Measures

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this new support measure during a meeting with educators. The head of state emphasized that women's employment contributes to increasing family income and expanding educational opportunities for children, which is the reason for introducing this compensation.

During the same meeting, other improvements for kindergarten staff were also presented. From the new academic year, the duration of training for educators at pedagogical universities will be reduced from four to three years. Furthermore, assistant educators with at least five years of experience in kindergartens will have the opportunity to take advantage of this shortened training program.

It should be noted that another aid measure was previously announced: starting January 1, 2027, working mothers in Uzbekistan will receive a benefit until their child turns one year old. These funds will be distributed through the State Social Insurance Fund.

Uzbekistan to expand support for private schools to meet growing educational demand

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced plans to increase support for private school education during a meeting with teachers and mentors before their professional holiday. These new initiatives were presented by the presidential press secretary, Sherzodom Asadov.

The need to expand school infrastructure is driven by the increasing number of students. This year, about 800,000 children entered the first grade, which is 10% more than the previous year. It is projected that the number of first-graders will reach one million by 2030.

To increase the number of places in educational institutions, it is planned to create an additional 180,000–200,000 places annually under investment programs. Special support measures will be provided to entrepreneurs willing to open private schools in 52 districts where existing schools experience particularly high demand.

Entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to take out loans to establish non-state schools at an annual interest rate of 10% for a term of seven years. Furthermore, founders of private educational institutions will receive compensation of 15% of equipment costs, up to a maximum of 1.5 billion soms. The state will also cover half of the costs associated with obtaining international accreditation.

Additional incentives will be introduced for property owners who provide their premises to schools; they will receive tax benefits on land and property. It is also planned to provide free leases of state buildings in all districts for school needs for up to 10 years.

Changes will also affect families paying for private school tuition. The tax deduction for parents will be doubled from 3 million to 6 million soms. Tax authorities will be obliged to organize the automatic refund of part of the income tax at the end of each month. According to the president, these measures will allow families to save from 6 to 7 million soms annually.

All these steps are aimed at expanding the private sector's participation in the field of school education amid the expected growth in the number of school-age children and the increased demand for new school places.
