The second generation of the Dolphin Mini, which is sold in China under the name BYD Seagull, has received additional interior features ahead of its debut in the Chinese market. This electric hatchback will be equipped with a driver's seat with a massage function, multi-color ambient lighting, and a floating display that combines the functions of the instrument cluster and multimedia center.
The display has a 3/7 proportion split. The left section, where the instrument cluster is located, displays data such as speed, gear, range, energy consumption, and driving modes. The larger area on the right is intended for entertainment functions, including navigation and music.
The front seats have electric adjustment, and the driver's seat is additionally equipped with a massage function. The model will also feature two storage compartments under the second-row seats and a rear adjustable ventilation outlet for passengers. It will also include BYD's signature magnetic buttons.
The most significant changes have occurred under the hood. The electric motor has been moved from the front axle to the rear, transforming the compact car into a rear-wheel-drive model and freeing up space for a 94-liter compartment under the hood.
The trunk capacity reaches up to 1380 liters when the rear seats are folded down. The rear torsion beam axle has been replaced with an independent multi-link suspension system. The new engine develops 129 hp, compared to 75 hp in the Dolphin Mini currently sold in Brazil, and increases the maximum speed to 150 km/h.
Two battery options are available: 30 kWh and 39.2 kWh, providing a range of 320 km to 420 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. Under the stricter European WLTP cycle, the figures range from 262 km to 344 km. The current national version has a range of 280 km according to Inmetro data.
The car has also become larger: its length is 4.21 m, width is 1.81 m, height is 1.57 m, and wheelbase is 2.65 m. Additional options include a roof-mounted LiDAR integrated into the DiPilot 300 driver assistance package, which BYD calls 'God's Eye B'.
Chinese media also suggests that the car will support the brand's ultra-fast charging—from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, although BYD has not confirmed this.
The new Seagull will directly compete with the Geely EX2, which is currently the best-selling car in China. CarNewsChina estimates the price of the BYD model to be less than 100,000 yuan (approximately 78,000 Brazilian reais) in the local market. The current generation is sold in Asia in the range of 69,900 to 85,900 yuan (54,400 to 66,800 Brazilian reais) and has shown a 66.5% drop in shipments from January to August.
The EX2 is also available in Brazil starting November 2025 at prices ranging from 123,800 to 136,800 Brazilian reais and directly competes with the Dolphin Mini assembled in Kamasari (Belarus). It is currently unknown if all these configurations will be available in the Brazilian version planned for 2027, which still lacks a defined price.
