Petrobras President confirms good quality of oil discovered in Morpho well and extends operation until end of month

Petrobras president, Magda Chambriard, announced at a press conference this Friday (2) that the newly discovered oil in the Morpho well, located off the coast of Amapá, has excellent quality.

Chambriard stated that the oil has 'good quality,' following the standard observed previously in the Morpho well. She showed a sample of the substance collected just over a month ago, reinforcing the announcement made in August about the discovery.

The company had already found oil in the aforementioned well in August. By continuing drilling into a deeper section, a new area containing oil was identified. This new occurrence was validated through analyses conducted on both the rocks and the fluid samples obtained during the drilling process.

The Morpho well is located in block FZA-M-59, within the Foz do Amazonas Basin, approximately 175 kilometers from the coast of Oiapoque (AP). This region is part of the Equatorial Margin, a Brazilian coastal strip viewed as a new promising area for gas and oil exploration.

According to Chambriard, the exploration activity in the well has not yet ended. The expectation is that work at Morpho will be concluded by the end of this month. She added that by the end of October, the rig will be demobilized and relocated to the coast of Rio Grande do Norte, where it will begin drilling the Mãe de Ouro prospect.

Additionally, Petrobras received in March of this year the renewal of the operating license from the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) to carry out the drilling of Mãe de Ouro, which is located in deep waters in the Potiguar Basin.
