Juiz de Fora hospitals suspend SUS services due to lack of municipal transfer

Several public hospitals in Juiz de Fora had their services under the Unified Health System (SUS) suspended this Friday (2). The responsible institutions justified the suspension by citing the absence of funds transfer from the city hall.

Operations were partially interrupted at philanthropic units, including Santa Casa de Misericórdia, Therezinha de Jesus Hospital and Maternity, Ana Nery Hospital, São Vicente de Paulo Hospital, 9 de Julho Hospital, and Ascomcer.

The Union of Juiz de Fora Hospitals reported that these resources are essential for the continued maintenance of the units, which risk shortages of supplies, especially medicines.

In compliance with a recommendation from the Public Prosecutor's Office, emergency and urgent care services remained active. The union also warned that next week there is a possibility that there will not be enough funds to cover the salaries of employees of these institutions.

The City Hall of Juiz de Fora contested the allegations, stating that it has no outstanding financial issues with health service providers. According to the municipal administration, any disagreements in interpretation are being resolved through mediation promoted by the Public Prosecutor's Office, which set November as the deadline for resolution.

Additionally, the official note from the City Hall emphasized that the administration is willing to maintain an open dialogue with the parties involved to reach a constructive solution.
