‘Medicine for a Day’ Program Offers High School Students Experience in Mandic’s Medical Routine

The ‘Medicine for a Day’ program from São Leopoldo Mandic College provides high school students with an immersion into the medical routine. This initiative opens the doors of the campus located in Campinas, offering practical and targeted experience to aid in career choice.

During participation, students have access to academic infrastructure, visit laboratories, and take part in a practical Anatomy class. The objective is to allow the student to transcend purely theoretical knowledge and observe, under supervision, how medical science content applies in the daily life of the undergraduate course.

Bianca, who serves as coordinator and professor at Poliedro de Campinas, emphasizes the importance of this visit, as it brings young people closer to discussions that already occur in the classroom. She states that it is a chance for students to analyze human anatomy and experience what Medicine means, whether they wish to pursue the medical field or medical sciences in general.

In the practical session, participants can manipulate anatomical models under supervision, deepening their understanding of the human body. Furthermore, the experience introduces crucial topics for medical training from the beginning, such as empathy, responsibility, and respect in patient care.

Bianca also praises the institution's welcoming atmosphere and the relationship established with partner schools. She adds that the college has remarkable infrastructure and receives students with great satisfaction, making it a moment of intense learning for everyone.

Knowing before choosing

This experience helps the student formulate more specific questions about the undergraduate course, such as the nature of practical classes, the environments used in the course, the teaching method of Anatomy, and how interaction with patients and the health team develops during training.

For those still in the decision-making phase about the next steps after high school, this contact serves as an initial exercise in professional guidance. Instead of knowing Medicine only through accounts or online content, the participant experiences part of the university environment and closely observes the elements that make up the six years of study.

How to participate in Medicine for a Day

The participation process was not detailed in this section.

Cooperado CrediSIS expands property in Rondônia from 3 to 87 alqueires

Roque Silvino, originally from Cascavel (PR), developed a trajectory of almost four decades in agriculture in Nova Brasilândia D’Oeste, a municipality in the Central Region of Rondônia. His journey, which began with few resources while accompanying his father, was marked by the expansion of his property and the maintenance of the family rural activity.

Upon arriving in the state, he started with little land, but dedicated himself to work, balancing tasks on his own farm with daily labor on other crops to supplement income and invest in developing his coffee plantation. He recalls starting with a small area, planting and working as a day laborer to cover expenses and begin cultivating coffee.

During this initial period, the producer had his first contact with CrediSIS CrediBrás through cooperative members. They visited his property, explaining the institution's operation and assisting Roque with his questions about credit. Initially hesitant, he developed a relationship of trust with the cooperative over the years.

Subsequently, Roque began seeking out the cooperative whenever production demands or investment opportunities arose. A crucial moment occurred when a neighboring property was put up for sale. Since the transaction required immediate payment and the harvest had not yet taken place, he turned to the cooperative to secure the necessary financing to complete the purchase.

The cooperative member reported that the partnership with CrediBrás was fundamental in enabling the acquisition of the land. Currently, the property maintains coffee production and cattle raising, activities that follow the family history in Rondônia. Access to credit allowed for the organization of production commitments, the anticipation of resources when needed, and the seizing of new opportunities in the field, leading to the diversification of the activity, including the expansion of livestock farming without neglecting coffee.

The results of this evolution are visible on the property: in addition to the current 87 alqueires, he mentioned harvesting 540 bags of coffee in one season and now has a consolidated structure with cattle raising, fattening calves, a reservoir, and other family activities.

Jhones Barbosa Lucas, manager of CrediSIS CrediBrás, commented that Roque's experience illustrates how various forms of credit can accompany the distinct needs of a producer. According to him, the cooperative strives to understand each cooperative member's situation and offer the most appropriate solution, whether for production investments or to meet more urgent needs, covering rural and personal credit operations.

After almost forty years in Rondônia, Roque has begun transferring some of the property's responsibilities to his son. For him, this succession represents an achievement that transcends land and production, as it keeps alive a legacy started by his parents' generation, bringing tranquility and hope for future improvements.
