Uzbekistan and Belarus aim for $2 billion in bilateral trade

The Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khojaev, stated that Uzbekistan and Belarus intend to increase bilateral trade to the volume of 2 billion US dollars while expanding cooperation in industrial and agricultural sectors. This statement was made after a meeting in Khiva with the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, Yuriy Shuleiko.

Khojaev emphasized that it is crucial to maintain the pace of interaction and implement these agreements into concrete projects following the agreements reached by the two countries in July.

Industrial and Agricultural Cooperation

Currently, about 120 industrial cooperation projects are being implemented between Uzbekistan and Belarus. The main areas include electrical engineering and light industry, mechanical engineering, building materials, pharmaceuticals, and other industries.

The parties also discussed joint work in the field of animal husbandry. Entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan have already launched 39 projects in five regions of Belarus. These projects involve the creation of livestock complexes, development of breeding stock, production of animal feed, and the use of agricultural land.

Another area of cooperation discussed at the meeting was organized labor migration. According to Khojaev, a mechanism is being developed to attract specialists from Uzbekistan on a targeted basis, based on the needs of Belarusian enterprises.

Furthermore, the parties considered the possibility of opening a representative office of the Migration Service of Uzbekistan in Minsk. This meeting took place after the signing of agreements aimed at expanding trade and economic partnership between Uzbekistan and Belarus, as well as transitioning from general agreements to the implementation of specific joint projects.
