Pabllo Vittar, who had not released an album since 2024 with the work «Batidão Tropical Vol. II», returned with a risky venture this Thursday (1st). She presented the album titled «Lost in Lust», a frantic project that predominantly uses English and Spanish.
This new album follows the sonic line of the 2023 release, «Noitada», which explored electronic music and generated diverse opinions at the time. However, «Lost in Lust» raises the stakes, gathering producers from the LGBTQ+ nightlife scene, including Rodrigo Gorky, S4tan, PZZS, Chernobruno, Jeska, Ezmehfw, Votú, Eva de LC, Gorfo de Panda, Martinz Beats, LOFIBBGIRL, and Carlos do Complexo, to create even more intense tracks with multiple influences.
Pabllo, known for her ability to select producers, gave them complete freedom, resulting in sounds described as chaotic, metallic, and hallucinatory. Highlights include «Bad Good», which transitions between piseiro and techno, and «Big Bang», which mixes reggaeton with intense rock elements.
The album is only 29 minutes long, which helps prevent the listener from becoming saturated, given that it is not a calm listening experience. With little space reserved for Portuguese, the album also features international collaborations, such as Puerto Rican rapper Villano Antillano, Italian Mahmood, Lacruz from Venezuela, and Urias from Uberlândia.
This strategy clearly demonstrates Pabllo's intention to focus on her international career and perform at global parties. Furthermore, her closeness to Madonna reinforces her potential in this scenario. However, the text points out that the magnetism that made her globally beloved is not as present in this album.
In her most successful works, Pabllo masterfully combines sense of humor, Brazilianness, and boldness, as seen in songs like «Descontrolada» and «Culpa do Cupido», maintaining a consistently lively and fun repertoire. In contrast, in «Lost in Lust», although the productions are creative, Pabllo does not stand out and is sometimes overshadowed by the guest appearances. Generic lyrics in other languages, such as in «Skin» («You got me feeling hot hot hot») and «Body Type» («I'm your body type»), make it difficult to identify what defines this album as being Pabllo Vittar's.
Thus, «Lost in Lust» is considered a somewhat disappointing addition to the artist's discography. While it is positive to observe Pabllo experimenting without aiming for popular or radio hits, highlighting club sounds, what was missing was the ability to incorporate this energy authentically into her identity. Despite the good ideas, the danceable songs, and the big names involved, Pabllo Vittar, one of Brazil's most charismatic singers, released a club record that is not fun.
