Hungarian archaeologists, led by Bence Simon from Eötvös Loránd University, shared information about the progress of excavations conducted in the wooded area near Budapest.

Researchers from this university have been studying the rural settlement, which was inhabited during the Roman period, for several years. This year, they managed to discover a ritual object—a small lead statuette depicting Venus Pudica.

The figurine represents an image of a naked goddess covering herself with her hands. Information about this find was published on the official website of Eötvös Loránd University.

Probable Remains of Burned Lutetia Discovered in Paris

French archaeologists, led by David Couturier, conducted rescue excavations in February 2026 on the grounds of the historic Hôtel-Dieu hospital. These works took place on the Île de la Cité, near the Notre-Dame Cathedral, in Paris.

During these earthworks, researchers discovered fragments of ancient massive defensive structures made of stone and wood. According to information posted on the official website of the French Ministry of Culture, there is a high probability that the found structure is the remains of the known settlement of Lutetia.

It is assumed that this structure may have been destroyed as a result of a fire during the Gallic Wars, which took place between 58 and 50 BC.
