Pink October has started in Uzbekistan—a month dedicated to breast cancer prevention

A special month dedicated to the prevention and early detection of breast cancer has begun in Uzbekistan. According to data from the World Health Organization, approximately 2.4 million women worldwide are diagnosed with 'breast cancer' every year. If current trends continue, it is expected that the number of such cases will increase by 38% by 2050, and the mortality rate will rise by 68%.

The 'Pink October' campaign has been held in many countries around the world since 1993. The main goal of this month is to raise women's awareness about prevention methods, early diagnosis opportunities, and to provide support to those undergoing treatment.

In Uzbekistan, breast cancer is the most common oncological disease among women. In recent years, the country has taken significant measures to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment. A state program has been approved aimed at controlling cervical and breast cancer for the period from 2025 to 2030. This program includes expanding screening examinations, developing mammography, and ensuring conditions for prompt medical care.

It is planned that approximately 1.5 million women in the age group of 45 to 65 will be covered by mammographic examinations annually. Specialized oncology control offices operate in polyclinics, and mobile and stationary mammographers work in two shifts.

Events within the campaign

Various educational and sports events are planned as part of the current campaign: a mass run will be held, yoga classes will be organized for patients and their relatives, and free consultations and medical check-ups will be offered. Master classes for doctors on prevention and patient care will take place in Tashkent, Samarkand, Fergana, and other regions.

A conference involving international experts, specialists, and partners is scheduled for October 14. This event coincides with the launch of the new website soglomoktabr.cancercenter.uz, where users can find information on symptoms, diagnosis, and book an appointment with a doctor in Uzbek, Russian, or English.

Doctors strongly urge women to actively participate in the events and pay attention to their health. Furthermore, a unified digital system will be introduced in Uzbekistan to ensure patient support at all stages of the fight against cancer—from early detection to treatment and follow-up.
