Sales of compact Maruti Suzuki cars are growing, increasing by 41%

Sales of compact Maruti Suzuki vehicles are recovering. Sales of the company's mini, compact, and mid-sized passenger cars increased by 24% compared to the previous year. In September 2026, sales in these segments reached 91,887 units. The company's overall sales also showed growth.

Regarding domestic passenger vehicle sales, Maruti Suzuki sold 181,838 units, showing an increase of 36.9%. Last year, 74,090 units of Alto, Celerio, S-Presso, WagonR, Swift, Baleno, and Dzire models were sold; this year, 17,797 more units were sold in this segment.

Looking at the last two quarters, from April 2025 to September 2025, Maruti Suzuki sold 411,801 vehicles in this segment. Meanwhile, from April to September of the current year, the company sold 551,094 units, which represents approximately 1.4 lakh more vehicles sold compared to last year.

This positive sales trend for Maruti Suzuki emerged while SUVs dominate the Indian market. Currently, SUV body types account for 57% of the Indian automotive market. Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki itself is focusing on SUV body style models.

In the first half of the 2027 fiscal year, Maruti Suzuki's SUV sales grew by 56%. On average, the company sells 56 thousand SUVs monthly. In the first half of this fiscal year, Maruti Suzuki sold 11 million vehicles, with 565,201 sold in the second quarter. This was the highest quarterly sales figure for the company.

Demand for the Dzire sedan, the company's only sedan, remains very high, making it a bestseller in the industry. Maruti Suzuki recently released an updated version of the Baleno, indicating that people still prefer compact cars.

Partha Bennerjee, Senior Executive Director of Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki, noted: 'This didn't happen in one month. It is happening month after month. In the first half of the 2027 fiscal year, sales of Maruti's entry-level hatchbacks grew by 86%, mid-hatchback sales grew by 40%, and total hatchback sales increased by 41%.'
