Midfielder Tulani Mabaso of Kaizer Chiefs took the field again last weekend after a long recovery period due to injury. This step brings the player closer to a possible return to the main squad.
Mabaso participated in the reserve team match between Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates as part of the DStv Diski Challenge tournament opener. The game was held at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban and ended with Chiefs winning 3-2.
Mabaso's appearance was part of his rehabilitation program, as he sustained an injury several months ago. In the match, he received playing time, marking his first official minutes since sustaining the injury. Chiefs initially led by a three-goal margin in the game before holding on to the result despite playing with ten men.
Confirmation of Player Readiness
Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Mothunga Jr. announced on the club's official website that the player has reached an important stage in his recovery. He noted that the team demonstrated a 'truly valiant effort' in the opening match.
Mothunga Jr. added that they are pleased to see the main squad midfielder Tulani Mabaso play his first competitive match after being injured several months ago, emphasizing that his return means he is getting closer to full fitness for the first team.
After successfully passing necessary medical examinations and playing at the reserve level, Mabaso will remain under the observation of the senior technical staff ahead of upcoming home matches. Chiefs' next opponent in the league is Stellenbosch FC at the FNB Stadium on October 17, and the midfielder may be available for selection in this match.
