Film 'Funk', starring Duda Santos, premieres in Brazil during the Rio Festival

Among the variety of documentaries about prominent figures in Brazilian music included in the Rio Festival 2026 programming, a fictional film draws attention in the Premiere Brasil section.

This film is titled "Funk," directed by Aly Muritiba and stars Duda Santos. The actress has already been nationally recognized in soap operas such as "Garota do momento" (2024 / 2025) and currently participates in "A nobreza do amor" (2026).

The feature film will have its first screenings in Brazil at the Rio Festival, scheduled for tomorrow night, Saturday, October 3rd. In this film, Duda Santos plays MC Sabrina, a young carioca funk singer whose mother is the pioneering artist of the genre, MC Priscila, a character played by MC Nem.

Sabrina faces conflicts with her mother, with whom she lives in Morro dos Prazeres, a community located in the Santa Teresa neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro.

The cast of the film also includes singers TZ da Coronel and Lellê. The film "Funk" had its international premiere in June, as part of the program of the Tribeca Film Festival, held in Manhattan, New York, United States.

However, the official premiere of Aly Muritiba's film in Brazil will take place at the Rio Festival, in the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), a location considered the birthplace of the funk style sung by MC Sabrina.
