After modernization, Urgench International Airport will be able to accommodate aircraft even in minimal visibility of about 300 meters. This information became known after a correspondent from Podrobno.uz visited the airport.
The director of Urgench Airport, Oibek Matkarimov, reported that the current minimum visibility threshold for landing is approximately 750 meters. He specified that the installation of CAT-II standard signal lights is planned, which will allow aircraft to land in poor visibility, which will be almost twice as worse as the current conditions.
The work also includes the construction of a new runway with a length of 3.3 thousand meters and the erection of four taxiways. Furthermore, according to preliminary information, the number of aircraft parking spots will increase from six to eighteen.
It was previously announced that during the reconstruction, Urgench Airport will be adapted to receive large wide-body aircraft, such as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A350.
