The Abu Dhabi-based airline Etihad Airways announced on Wednesday that it is seeking legal counsel regarding potential actions after the publication of independent Premier League commission findings, which found Manchester City guilty of 115 breaches of financial regulations.
Etihad, which has been the club's main sponsor since 2009, categorically rejects any conclusions, findings, or assumptions about its involvement in improper commercial agreements.
In its statement, the airline emphasized that the league never contacted it or consulted with it during the commission's proceedings, nor did it provide the company with an opportunity to present information or challenge materials that could negatively affect the company.
The statement also noted: 'Etihad is deeply concerned by how this matter was brought to public attention. The lack of clarity and transparency, coupled with selective disclosure of information, has created detrimental consequences for Etihad, despite the airline not being named in the published decision.'
Manchester City itself denies any violations and stated its intention to appeal the decision.
A Premier League representative stated on Wednesday that they would not comment on Etihad's statement.
Etihad added that the public presentation of the Premier League's results, which it characterized as selective leaks and media coverage, damaged its reputation.
Affirming its support for Manchester City and its long-standing partnership with the club, the airline stated that it is seeking legal assistance to protect its interests. The statement reads: 'We support the club, its fans, and our wider Etihad community while Manchester City appeals the commission's findings through available procedures.'
