When planning a train trip in October, passengers must do more than just have a ticket; they need to prepare for document checks. This is especially relevant if multiple people are traveling on one ticket or if the ticket was purchased using any benefits, quotas, or special passes. Problems may arise if you do not have a ticket or the necessary documents during an inspection.
The Central Railway has announced the start of a special ticket inspection campaign in October. This check will take place from October 1st to October 31st, 2026, and will cover not only trains but also railway stations. Special attention will be paid to discounted tickets, fixed reservation quota tickets, and tickets related to various passes.
The main goal of this campaign is to prevent the misuse of seats, fraudulent use of benefits and passes, and to limit financial losses for the railway.
If more than one passenger travels on a single ticket, one of them must carry a valid identification document during the ticket check. This requirement applies to both regular and discounted tickets. If it is impossible to present identification, all passengers traveling on that ticket may be considered to be traveling without a valid ticket, which will result in a fine or other measures in accordance with railway rules.
When purchasing a ticket for multiple people under one Passenger Name Record (PNR) number, travel is paid for everyone, and separate seats are provided to each person, although the PNR number itself remains unified.
Passengers purchasing tickets under fixed benefits or reserved quotas must be prepared to prove their eligibility during the check. Simply showing the ticket is not enough; they may require documents confirming the right to receive the given quota or benefit. Therefore, such passengers should ensure in advance that all necessary documents for the used discounted fare are with them.
Railway staff and their corresponding family members use privileges such as E-Pass and PTO (Privilege Ticket Order). E-Pass grants the right to free travel, while PTO allows purchasing a ticket at a reduced price compared to the standard rate. The Central Railway emphasizes that individuals traveling based on E-Pass or PTO must carry their original identification document throughout the journey. It is also important to verify whether the E-Pass or PTO has been converted into a travel authorization before the route begins; otherwise, the passenger may be fined for traveling without a valid ticket.
The inspection will not be limited to reserved tickets; unreserved tickets will also be checked. If a ticket inspector suspects a discrepancy in the validity period or information on the ticket, they may conduct an on-site check using the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) application. Thus, in October, passengers must not only keep their ticket information correctly but also have all relevant documents with them.
