The Indian team is preparing for the men's cricket semi-final at the Asian Games against Sri Lanka, which will take place on Thursday at the Korogi Sports Park stadium in Nishine. Before this match, Indian batsman Sanju Samson commented on the uncertainty of the conditions in Nagoya, noting that since neither team has played much here, no one can gain an advantage from these conditions.
During a press conference, Samson admitted that the conditions are slightly different because they have never played in Nagoya, and most players are debuting there. He emphasized that many aspects remain unknown to both them and their opponents. In Samson's opinion, both teams will step onto the field fresh, and the true conditions will only become clear during the game. He added that in such conditions, any team can succeed, and the team is very excited about the possibility of playing good cricket.
India previously won the gold medal in men's cricket at the 2022 Asian Games and intends to repeat this success. Furthermore, India won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026 consecutively.
Prior to the Asian Games, India faced difficulties due to the conditions in Nagoya. In the only T20I played in Japan before the Asian Games, the team encountered problems, and the match was interrupted due to rain, resulting in a five-over game.
India advanced to the semi-finals after the quarter-final match against Afghanistan was cancelled due to lack of balls, and the team secured a spot based on a higher ranking. Rain affected all four quarter-final matches in Japan, and none took place. However, the appearance of sunshine on Wednesday raised hopes for the upcoming Thursday match.
During the rain, the Indian team focused on internal activities to stay in shape. Samson reported that the team tried to train daily, engaging in conditioning at the gym and in practice sessions. Additionally, the players spent time together discussing cricket and the team composition. He also noted that the team constantly holds meetings to quickly prepare the players for a match if necessary. Samson mentioned that the weather was clear on Wednesday, allowing the team to practice and understand the conditions for the next day. In case of a sudden match cancellation due to rain, India, being a high-ranked team, will proceed to the final.
Samson also highly praised Virat Kohli after he scored a hundred in the first ODI against West Indies, reaching 15,000 runs in ODIs. Kohli became the second batsman in the world to reach this milestone. Samson stated that having a player like Kohli in the Indian team is a great fortune. According to him, when Kohli scores runs, trains, or plays for the country, it serves as a huge stimulus for all the team's players. Every player who plays with him benefits from his performance.
