MG opens pre-sale of IM6, SAIC's luxury electric SUV, in Brazil

MG Motor has started the pre-reservation period for the IM6, a luxury category electric SUV belonging to the Chinese conglomerate SAIC Motor, intended for the Brazilian market. Potential buyers can place their orders through the automaker's official portal, with sales expected to begin by the end of 2026. Currently, the company has not disclosed crucial details such as the reservation cost, the final price, the different available configurations, or the complete technical specifications of the vehicle for Brazil.

The development of the IM6 was carried out by IM Motors, which acts as SAIC's luxury vehicle division. This model will be the first product from the brand to be sold in the country, with MG being responsible for the entire operation in Brazil. The IM line models will be positioned in a segment above the traditional MG line, following a trend observed in other Chinese groups, such as BYD with its Denza, and GWM with its Wey.

In terms of dimensions, the IM6 has a considerable size, measuring 4.90 meters in length, 1.98 meters in width, 1.66 meters in height, and 2.95 meters between axles, classifying it among the largest electric SUVs available in Brazil. Its design is notable for its smooth surfaces, closed front, and SUV coupe profile with a curved roof.

Although the Brazilian specification is still pending, the current reference is the European version. In Europe, the SUV is available with batteries ranging from 75 kWh to 100 kWh, always maintaining an 800-volt architecture and powers ranging from 295 hp to an impressive 778 hp. The most sophisticated version, named Performance, features two electric motors, all-wheel drive, and generates 81.8 kgfm of torque.

This model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240 km/h. Using the 100 kWh battery, it covers 504 km in the European WLTP cycle, while versions equipped with a single motor can achieve up to 625 km of range.

Regarding the mechanical system, the vehicle incorporates air suspension and rear-wheel steering, features that improve both maneuverability during turns and stability at high speeds. Furthermore, the system offers a crab mode, allowing the car to move diagonally to aid in parking in narrow spaces.

The interior is centered around a 26.3-inch horizontal screen, which integrates the instrument cluster and the multimedia center, complemented by a second 10.5-inch screen located on the center console. The equipment package includes a panoramic sunroof with double glazing, a 20-speaker audio system, and advanced artificial intelligence functionalities focused on connectivity and driving assistance.

Safety features include adaptive cruise control, 360-degree vision cameras, and an assistant capable of memorizing and replicating reverse routes in tight spaces. The IM6 received five stars in collision tests conducted by ANCAP, the Australian body that adopts the Euro NCAP protocol.
