Restate, a Berlin-based company, has successfully raised $20 million in a Series A funding round. The round was led by Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. This investment brings Restate's total funding to $27 million.
The company, founded by the creators of Apache Flink, develops infrastructure for building reliable distributed applications. Its technology allows software to recover from network failures, crashes, and interrupted processes. Currently, Restate serves hundreds of enterprises across various industries.

The capital raised will be used for the further development of the company's products. Additionally, Restate plans to expand its presence in the United States, including opening a new commercial center in San Francisco. The company focuses on modern applications that have high requirements for task execution, such as distributed backends, enterprise workflows, and AI agents.
Restate asserts that its infrastructure is already used in mission-critical applications. For example, Replit uses Restate to ensure reliable orchestration within the Replit Agent. Other mentioned clients include DOSS and BILT Rewards. The company previously received funding involving Redpoint Ventures.
The reliable execution feature allows applications to remember completed work, enabling the software to resume from a previous state after any interruption. This significantly reduces the need for developers to build recovery systems for every process themselves.
The growth of AI agents has created new infrastructure challenges. These agents can function longer than many traditional applications and are capable of executing model calls and interacting with external tools. Such systems can communicate with each other as well as with humans.
Because these systems can change direction during execution, more states and interactions arise that must be preserved during unexpected failures. Stefan Yuan, CEO and co-founder of Restate, emphasized that resilience must become an integral part of the infrastructure. He justified his position by noting that modern software includes services, agents, workflows, and state.
Restate aims to solve these challenges through a distributed log and an event-driven orchestrator. The company's architecture places the log at the center of execution, state, and communication, without requiring an external database or search engine.
Restate's architecture reflects the experience of the founding team. Yuan and his co-founders previously created Apache Flink, which became important infrastructure for real-time data processing. Restate applies similar infrastructure principles to the execution of modern applications.
The company's platform supports stateful features, stateful applications, and communication. Recently, the Bring Your Own Cloud service was launched, allowing customers to run managed Restate in their own cloud accounts while keeping application data in their own infrastructure.
Replit adopted Restate when updating the architecture underlying the Replit Agent. Michelle Katasta, President and Head of AI at Replit, described Restate as a runtime for reliable execution. The company announced that Restate is now responsible for reliable orchestration in its agent platform.
The new funding provides Restate with additional resources for the next stage of growth. The company plans to hire more engineers and build a go-to-market team. Expansion in the San Francisco Bay Area is also planned.
In recent months, Restate has secured several significant contracts with clients. Its client base includes AI companies and major financial institutions. The company is also working to achieve wider adoption of its technology in the corporate sector.
