The largest artificial intelligence (AI) corporations in the United States signed a voluntary code of best practices on Tuesday (29). This code was presented by the Donald Trump administration and establishes commitments focused on safety, innovation, and the advancement of AI technology.
The signing took place during a meeting held at the White House, bringing together Trump with executives from major industry companies. Among the companies present were representatives from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and xAI.
Focuses of the Agreement
The document was structured around four main areas. Furthermore, the agreement aims to boost AI research, as the signatory companies committed to maintaining investments in the development of AI models and technologies, thereby preserving the United States' leading position in this field.
The Trump administration has promoted the expansion of the AI industry in the country as part of its tactic to ensure American technological competitiveness. Another aspect addressed by the code relates to the essential infrastructure needed to support AI growth, given that the increase in models requires a large volume of computational capacity and energy.
This initiative also aligns with the US government's efforts to accelerate the creation of structures capable of sustaining national AI development. The fourth pillar of the code focuses on the responsible use of the technology, where companies assume responsibility for how their systems will be created and deployed, including measures to mitigate potential risks associated with AI.
It is important to note that this code is voluntary in nature, meaning that companies are not subject to the requirements of legislation passed by the US Congress. The action is part of the Trump administration's strategy to foster AI in the United States while defining sectoral parameters without imposing a vast set of new mandatory federal regulations at this time.
